•Morning Sickness•

Deceivingly named, it can occur at any time of the day or night. For some women this can present as a more extreme version known as hyperemesis gravidarum.

Morning sickness can make it hard to eat and drink well, but the key is to eat and drink what you can. Baby takes the good and has the yolk sac for nourishment in those first few weeks. See my tips below for coping with pregnancy sickness:
⏰ Eat little and often and try not to go too long with an empty stomach.
🍞carbohydrates can really help with settling the stomach, bread, potatoes, and some ladies I’ve talked with have sworn by noodles.
👂Listen to your body - some ladies may get a craving for a certain food. As long as it’s safe in pregnancy, go for it.
🍳Proteins can really help with the pregnancy sickness, and in my case cheese and crackers helped settle the stomach.
🥗 If fruit and veg seem too much, don’t panic. Either try them well cooked so they are easier to digest, or consider taking a prenatal if you aren’t already.
🧃Fluids! So important, especially if you are vomiting. For me, fizzy water was better tolerated than tap water. You can also try soups, jelly, ice lollies and high water content fruit.

If you are really struggling to eat and drink anything, it’s important to speak with your GP or midwife as you may need additional help to ensure you don’t become dehydrated. For the majority of us, it does get better!
