The penguin story went viral for a reason. 🐧
We laugh, we meme it, we call it “relatable.” And yeah, I get the lighter take—burnout culture, needing a break, wanting to escape the grind.
But let’s be real about what we’re actually relating to.
A penguin walking toward certain death. Away from everything that sustains it. Scientists don’t romanticize it—they call it what it is: a death march.
And the fact that millions of us saw ourselves in that? That says something darker about where we’re at collectively.
Here’s the thing: We’re not penguins. We have consciousness. We can recognize when we’re walking toward our own mountains, away from connection, away from help, away from life.
Sometimes self-destructive behavior isn’t accidental—it’s a choice we make when reality feels unbearable. When pain outweighs hope. When the familiar darkness feels safer than the unknown effort of healing.
I’m not here to sugarcoat it. But I am here to remind you: unlike the penguin, you can turn around.
