To all my followers and clients - I meet and treat people of all ages from as young as 12 (supervised by an adult at a recent booking) up to 81. So I speak to a lot of people about their general health, well being and how they're feeling - as you'd expect..
Well I thought i'd just do a little post to promote knowledge about NAD+ decline since a lot of people are reporting reduced energy, and as the world we live in becomes more mentally challenging, it makes sense that we need more reinforcement to those outside factos.
These days everyone is trying to plump their facial features and slim their waists, but these are all superficial markers of perceived youth. How we feel from the inside, plays a much bigger part in feeling good VS how we are perceived by others....
We all need a balanced diet with fresh foods: fruits, veg, protein + balanced carbs - plenty of sleep, water and less stress - but if you're 30+ you might at some point start to notice some changes in your bodies. You might even already have a range of diagnosed issues - which could all be connected to different kinds of inflammatory diseases - i know quite a few of the clients I see do.
So what is NAD+?
NAD+ stands for Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide.
NAD+ is a molecule that is found in every cell in your body and plays a role in regulating normal cellular function through providing mitochondrial energy supply. The ongoing energy supply to mitochondria (the batteries of our cells) via NAD+ provides the ability for every human cell to communicate and instigate repair and rebuild after normal environmental insult. Eating, breathing, psychological stress, & chemical stress (alcohol, pollution, drugs) all cause stress to cells which cause DNA damage that requires higher levels of NAD to ensure repair. Thus whenever there is tissue or even psychological injury (sibling parental or friend death/injury, work related psychological trauma or relationship breakdown), NAD+ is required to repair injured body or neuronal tissue.Increasing environmental/ psychological stress causes increasing requirement of NAD+.
Increasing need of NAD combined with diminishing production capability (normal ageing) creates a condition known as NAD STEAL.
NAD STEAL results where the amount of ageing/ environmental damage (physical or environmental trauma) INCREASES and natural NAD+ production DECREASES, usually attributed to normal ageing and increased age related inflammation.
The result is, after the age of 40-50, an intrinsically reducing level of natural NAD+ production, combines with increased need for NAD+ due to environmental damage.
When the NAD+ potential of an individual cell reduces so it cannot maintain intracellular activity and intercellular communication the cell will mark itself for death, a recognised process called apoptosis.
The end result is increased DNA damage, significant reduction of the functional mitochondria in the cell, apoptosis (cellular loss) and accelerated ageing. This essential molecule NAD+, ultimately determines how quickly not only our individual cells age but more importantly how the human body ages.
Poor mitochondria function and cellular decline with ageing results in humans experiencing increased lethargy, muscle loss, peripheral fat gain, increased inflammatory pain and cellular dysfunction leading to cellular decay…. in simple terms, the acceleration of the ageing process.
NAD+ intake helps in the battle against ageing by activating enzymes called "SIRTUIN" and "PARPS" which are essential in maintaining DNA repair which restore normal cellular DNA and normal cellular function.
Maintaining highest level NAD+ levels is key to supporting DNA repair in combination with prevention against age / inflammatory related disease. Enhancing NAD+ levels reduce NAD STEAL and neurodegenerative decline.
Who is taking an NAD+ supp already and how is it going for you?
