🎃 Everyone at ASC had a spooktacular time at their Halloween celebration yesterday.

First, it was the second annual Scarecrow competition, which was helped along with the Activities and Workshop teams.

As Activities Coordinator, Anne Foulds, says: "It gives us all a chance to get creative and a little competitive, plus it's a great laugh and brilliant for everyone's wellbeing."

Then, there was a party in the afternoon, which was plotted by the ASC team alongside the people they support. They planned the entertainment, picked the food, and designed the competitions and decorations. Fangtastic! 🧛

🌸 The gardens at ASC have had a real glow-up this summer, so they’ve entered into BCG's group-wide gardening competition! 🌸

From epic makeovers to 'Best Pots', BCG in Bloom spotlights a lot of hard graft across the homes.

At ASC, we've added a marvellous new decking area where residents can relax, surrounded by lovely plant boxes and bird houses, all crafted with care in our onsite workshop.

A huge shoutout to our amazing residents who were only too happy to get involved, supported by Bob from the workshop, Scott and Andy from the maintenance team, and our brilliant Activities Coordinator, Anne, who helped with the finishing touches.

🌿 Fabulous teamwork all around! 🌿

Inspired by a recent course held at BCG’s support office, the team at The Grange hosted their own 'What Matters To You' session this week.

What Matters To You is about carefully considering what is most important to us, day-to-day, highlighting that it’s the same things that matter to our residents and our colleagues too: showing compassion and kindness, empathy and understanding.

It was a resounding success, with great participation all round.

180! Yes, well almost. ASC Workshop became the venue for a darts tournament which lasted two days as so many people wanted to play! 🎯

Bob Foulds, who runs the ASC workshop, said: “Service users came from all units of ASC Campsie and the banter was fantastic! This activity was great in helping social interaction between units.”

The winners on this occasion were Orchard Court, so congratulations go to them. There were a few archers in our midst!

The ASC team was bursting with pride at Perth University of the Highlands and Islands prizegiving this week as resident, Liam McLeod, received a Leadership Skills Award, and a trophy to boot! 🏆

Liam’s journey with UHI Perth began in 2019, when he enrolled in a weekly programme called Stepping In Access. The programme’s aim is to help young people and adults undertaking ‘bite-sized’ learning activities to develop personal and practical skills, self-awareness and confidence in expressing their views and opinions.

To support this pursuit, Liam’s tutor would visit and teach daily living skills, from how to budget and eating healthily to DIY – he even learned how to paint the activities room at ASC. Liam also attended a weekly football training class, which was game-changing for his physical and mental wellbeing.

Liam has now completed his last year at UHI Perth and has been fully supported by ASC’s Lead Activities Coordinator, Anne Foulds, and several other members of the specialised team.

Anne said: “Watching Liam’s confidence grow over these past six years and seeing what he has achieved across the time I’ve known him has made me extremely proud. His life and social skills, and his willingness to help and support others, has taken leaps and bounds.

“In fact, he has put it all to use as a volunteer for a social enterprise called Uppertunity in Dundee, where he was recognised with a volunteer appreciation award for their cafe, Serendipities. It’s just such a pleasure to see him flourish.”

Some of our residents have been indulging in the glorious sunny weather at Balbeggie and decided to get stuck into a bit of DIY.

Activities Coordinator Jenn and some of the residents from The Grange decided they needed to revamp their swings, with a little help from Andy and Scott, our Maintenance team, and Workshop supervisor Bob.

See the before and after photos below – don’t they look class?

This week, our Activities Team set service users at The Grange a challenge: take five weeks to complete a 5K challenge! 🏅🏅

In true ASC fashion, everybody joined in. Flora, Suzanne, Sandra, George and Stephen, alongside Activities Coordinator Anne, Deputy Manager Kim and Activities Coordinator Jenn all took on their first training session and smashed it.

The benefits for our physical and mental health already have been quite extraordinary. Of course, we’re spoiled for scenery right on our doorstep, so it’s a wonderful space to train.

Go Team The Grange!
