Cyndi's List is always worthwhile checking out for links to a wide range of resources, especially if you are doing research in an geographical area that you are unfamiliar with.

In a couple of days Cyndi's List turns 30 years old. And to my surprise my friends and colleagues have been scheming to write about CL and the anniversary and post them in the Genealogy Squad. I was so pleased and maybe I cried a bit too. I'm so grateful for everyone who has been supportive of my work all these years. So, I will share those posts here.

From Cari Taplin:

"This is the start of a series that a few of us have put together to celebrate 30 (THIRTY!!) years of Cyndi’s List. We are calling it .

If you are a member of this page, you probably know Cyndi Ingle as one of the admins for this group. She is the brains behind the website "Cyndi’s List” that started back in 1996. She had been collecting links to genealogically-relevant websites, message boards, and the like, and made a list, on paper, that eventually became Cyndi’s List, on the web. Genealogists have benefited from her FREE service to catalog and organize the genealogical community ever since. Today, Cyndi’s List has over 310,000 links in 232 categories!

If you haven’t visited her site yet, go do it! And stay tuned for some fun stories and tidbits throughout the month.
Congratulations, Cyndi, on 30 years! Amazing!

The excitement is building although sadly there are no Northern Ireland records in the 1926 Census.

A new chapter in Irish history is about to open.

The Census 1926 – the first census of the Irish Free State – will be publicly available on 18 April 2026, inviting you to explore how people lived, worked, and connected one hundred years ago.

More than numbers, these records tell the stories of Irish households, families, and communities during the early years of the Free State.

To mark this centenary, the National Archives of Ireland is launching a public programme, including nationwide exhibitions, a special theatrical production by Anu Productions and an RTÉ documentary exploring the human stories behind the records.

As part of the lead-up to the Census 1926 release, RTÉ published an article this week on why these records are such an important part of the Irish history 🔗 https://www.rte.ie/brainstorm/2026/0226/1560189-census-population-ireland-culture-trends/

Whether you’re a genealogist, academic, or curious about your family tree, this centenary celebration reveals not only data but the lives behind the data.

Promoting and encouraging the study of family history, genealogy, heraldry and local history, particular reference to nine counties of Ulster.

The first of three talks this week was for a group of senior's in the village of Cullybackey, (known locally as Yin Nought Yin). I talked about a day in the life of a genealogist and shared some of the interesting stories I had uncovered during research. We also looked at some of the records that folk could use to get started with their own family history research. There is a wealth of memories and stories to be unearthed with this group and preserved for the future - I do hope some of the group were inspired to get started.
