Help us raise awareness of Developmental Language Disorder (DLD), a hidden but common disability that affects 1 in 14 people.

You can find out more about DLD by reading our DLD fact sheet available here: https://thedldproject.com/developmental-language-disorder-dld/

DLD is a brain difference that makes talking and listening difficult. A DLD individual may also present with other co-occurring difficulties such as dyslexia, ADHD, dysgraphia, dyscalculia and developmental coordination disorder/dyspraxia.

People with DLD thrive when they have ongoing, individualised supports in place.

I was recommended this book yesterday by another Speech and Language Therapist and it is currently free on Prime Reading. She particularly recommended the 'praise' chapter!

A great post on using neurodiversity-affirming language

Have you ever wished your child’s teachers, therapists and social workers – or even extended family and friends – would use uplifting, self-affirming terminology when discussing your Autistic child?

The Reframing Autism team have, so we created this downloadable pdf full of respectful, Autistic-informed language to share with your child’s support network: https://reframingautism.org.au/neurodiversity-affirming-language-a-letter-to-your-childs-support-network/

The Reframing Autism logo appears at the bottom left corner of the image.

Pay what you can introduction to BSL. I have not personally done this but it looks brilliant if you would like to learn some basic signs!

Just a friendly reminder not to get confused between Makaton and BSL as they are very distinct πŸ™‚

During this difficult time, as more of us are finding ourselves in self-isolation or spending longer periods at home, we would like to provide the opportunity for you to use this time to learn British Sign Language. Our 20hr CPD certified course can be studied at your own pace and is a comprehensive...
