In Solution Focused Therapy, we often talk about The 3 P’s
A small but powerful practice that helps shift your brain toward calm, clarity, and control.
When you focus on positive moments, even very small ones, your brain begins to produce helpful neurotransmitters. These support you in moving out of the primitive emotional part of your brain and back into your prefrontal cortex — the part responsible for decision making, logical thinking, where we think positively and are emotionally balanced.
This means you’re less likely to be in fight/flight/freeze mode, and more able to respond to calmly, rather than react.
Try this every day:
Think positively
A positive action
Have a positive interaction
These don’t have to be big things. In fact, the smaller and more natural they are, the better.
Some days, especially when you’re struggling, these moments may feel hidden or insignificant. They might even sit alongside the challenges you’re facing.
But here’s the important part…
Acknowledge them.
Write them down — at the end of the day, in the middle of the night, or the next morning. When you do this, you are gently training your brain to notice what is going right, not just what feels hard.
Over time, these small acknowledgements begin to stand out more clearly from the struggles. They help create those “feel good” positive neurotransmitters that support a calmer, more balanced state of mind.
This isn’t about ignoring difficulties.
It’s about giving your brain a more balanced picture.
And that’s where real change begins.
