A couple of posts that are a bit back to front, but this year’s event at the amazing was another one to remember. No fish for us (again) but old friends reunited, new friends made, a great week spent on the bank and amazing causes supported.

It’s been a minute since we’ve been on the bank, unfortunately other things have taken a priority- but nonetheless, we are back! Even if it is going to be for a short period this month.
With this years event being held at Linear Fisheries Tar Farm Lake 5, it was anticipated to be a busy one as it’s a “runs water”… but with depths of 30+ft for the majority of the lake, changing weather and fish following the wind it wasn’t as active as we thought.

For my efforts I was rewarded with a 18lb 4oz Mirror which was sporting some fantastic markings and colours, which fell to a solid bag on a spot where a fish had shown less than 15minutes prior.

Other anglers had 1 fish, one had 2 fish and another had 4 (I think).
With it being a dog friendly venue I thought it would be a nice opportunity to get our Dachshund out before it gets too cold and I think he had a great time with lots of attention, guarding our bivvy from rats and enjoying a wander around the swim in the moonlight- plus a bonus ride on the barrow in our way for a half way point social.

Next stop (next week)- FRANCE! 🇫🇷
STAY TUNED.

Change of tactics, bait and location lead to success!

Prawn was the winning bait for today with 5 fish coming to the shore. Kicking things off with a rather unwanted Weever fish (poisonous). Thankfully I’ve seen them before so knew to handle with care. Next up was a Sea Bream before the spot went quiet.
What do we do in the UK when it goes dead? We look for the fish and move, so that’s what happened.

I moved about 150meters down the shore line and onto some rocks with deeper water off of them. With some light baiting I caught 2 Wrasse and a different variation of Sea Bream.

Overall, pretty happy with a quick hour long session before breakfast as the sun rose from behind the mountains. Unfortunately it’s time to pack up and head back home with the next big trip being another week in France.

An early start in Mallorca. Deploying the trusted 6ft Dwarf rod and numerous tactics to see what we can tempt. So far- nothing. But good to see a Barracuda turning my competitively feeding spot into a breakfast buffet.

Another country ticked off the list for wetting a line. Unfortunately no catches to report (yet!). Nice to be up before anyone else. Hearing the waves lap against the shore, the birds awakening and watching the sun appear over the mountains has something special about it.

With 3 small bread rolls and some cheese it took some time to get the fish feeding which turned competitive quicker than anticipated. With bread being smashed on the surface I deployed the trusty Nash surface float and time after time the force of the takes were loosening the bread and not sufficient to set the hook. Numerous methods deployed with added hope each time, which was quickly dashed when a new competitor entered the arena… the phenomenal Barracude. With its sleek and powerful structure it approached the manically feeding fish with aggression and precision. On its 3rd run at the shoal it took a bream and disappeared into the depths and rocks. After this the spot was dead. The fish disappeared and it was time for me to go and hunt my breakfast in a sea of permed hair, blue rinse and walking aids.

Until tomorrow…

New lake, new challenge and difficult conditions, mixed with time and patience spent watching the water and finding a likely spot= an 11lb 8oz Mirror which was as dark as other members had said they are.

This year hasn’t got off to the start we had hoped for. The planned Winter campaign has been scrapped and there’s been no time to hit the banks due to having an unwell dog at home. Our Dachshund came down with IVDD and within in 48hrs of being diagnosed he was unable to use his back legs.

As we haven’t got anything to show- here’s with 2 crackers from a 48hr session at the end of 2024 from Winters Lake at Manor Farm.

Never fear- we are still here!
The festive period has been a busy one and little fishing has taken place BUT, and it’s a big “but”… this year is going to be one to remember. With 3 European trips booked it’s time to head to Parco Del Brenta in Italy, then Juvigyn in France and back to battle it out at the FCC in October at the fantastic Abbey lakes.

More videos are coming and a winter campaign is about to begin, now the weather is more like winter and not autumn.
