❓ Who can witness a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA)?

Many people think a solicitor must witness an LPA – but that’s not always the case.

•A witness can be any independent adult (18+)
•They must not be the attorney named in the document
•They should not be a close family member of the attorney
•They simply watch the person sign and then sign themselves to confirm it

•The witness is not responsible for the decisions in the LPA — they are only confirming the signature is genuine.
