I’ve just been watching an ACPAT live webinar on Managing the Rider . There were some interesting points and one of the discussion points was that equestrian sport is probably the only one where the individuals do the sporting activity daily and often it is the only physical activity. Whereas other sports people will do a variety of physical activities devised to improve their physical capabilities and usually only do their sport 3- 4 times a week . It’s not something I’ve really thought about but it’s so true . Riding is so time consuming that it’s difficult at times to find the time and energy to work on our own cardio vascular fitness and muscle strength to improve our effectiveness as riders.
To help rectify this the answer is sport specific exercises that can be done on the yard and integrated into the daily jobs/ routine.
So watch this space - I’m going to work on developing a yard based routine that can be done daily. My aim is whilst it might not be easy it will help to improve your riding.
