Honeybees Hold the Key to Fighting Aggressive Breast Cancer
In a groundbreaking laboratory study, researchers at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research in Western Australia discovered that honeybee venom has the remarkable ability to destroy some of the most aggressive and difficult-to-treat breast cancer cells. Led by Dr. Ciara Duffy and published in npj Precision Oncology (September 2020), the study revealed that melittin — a powerful natural compound in bee venom — can eliminate triple-negative and HER2-enriched breast cancer cells within just 60 minutes, while leaving healthy cells largely unharmed. Even more promising, when combined with chemotherapy in mice, melittin significantly reduced tumor growth. Although this research is still in its early stages and human trials have not yet begun, the findings offer a hopeful glimpse into how nature itself may inspire the next generation of cancer treatments. Science continues to prove that even the smallest creatures can make a powerful impact.
Polluters Face 20 Years in Jail: Scotland Moves to Make ‘Ecocide’ a Crime
In a bold and historic step for environmental justice, the Scottish Parliament has backed plans that could see major polluters jailed for up to 20 years. Monica Lennon’s proposed ecocide bill aims to hold both individuals and corporations accountable for severe environmental harm — from oil spills to sewage leaks and destruction of protected marine areas. If passed, Scotland would become the first UK nation to criminalise ecocide, sending a powerful message that protecting nature is not optional — it’s essential. With growing global calls to treat environmental destruction as seriously as crimes against humanity, this move places Scotland at the forefront of a new era of accountability and hope for our planet.
