“Lyndsey, we could have never gotten through laboring with Jacob without you. You took the fear out of birthing. You gave us a foundation to stand on when the doctors and nurses came in. Having you with us the first time allowed us to have confidence in the second baby. I love u so much!!!”

I just found this comment from a post when I was waiting for my own baby to arrive 5 years ago. Brought back such lovely memories of supporting this family.

If you’re in the UK, you have probably noticed all the media chatter regarding maternity care and the enquiry that’s just been announced. It’s time this happened and I’m fully behind the need for it. I’m also behind the hard working and caring maternity teams all over the country. With this said, every time it is mentioned in the news, I think of you… If you’re pregnant, planning a pregnancy or know someone who is, my heart goes out to you.

As a Doula the first and most important thing for a family heading towards the birth of their child, is peace of mind. In my work, I know that if you go into birth with fear, it can make the natural process tricky. Our bodies are very cleverly made to slow things down if we perceive a threat.

I’ve wondered how I can help? As much as I would love to support every single pregnant family in the country (and out of it), I’m one Doula. However I do have the ability to share some really useful tools to help you work through any fears you may have regarding pregnancy, labour and parenting. Because I know there will be some worried families out there at the moment, I’m reducing the cost of my Reassurance Call from £30 to £20.

Reassurance Calls with me involve you being listened to. We’ll chat about your concerns and I’ll work through them with you in a way that will help you to manage them more effectively. I’ll also give you some advice on how to go into your birth and/or prenatal appointments with a greater sense of confidence and control. Calls take place on video or over the phone depending on your preference.

Pop me an email or private message to book a time.

For too long, the term “Baby Blues” has been used to describe the low mood or emotional changes many mothers experience after giving birth. While often well-intentioned, this label can be dismissive and risks overlooking something more serious.

The phrase itself dates back to before the First World War in 1918. Since then, our understanding of mental health, psychology and maternal wellbeing has advanced enormously. It’s time our language reflected that progress.

In those crucial early weeks, it’s important to pay attention to how feelings evolve. Persistent low mood, anxiety or other changes should never be brushed off as something that will “just pass.”

Through our two week long Beyond the Baby Blues campaign, we want to start shifting the conversation, moving away from outdated labels and towards honest, supportive discussions about maternal mental health.

By doing so, we hope to empower parents, partners and healthcare professionals to notice when something more is happening and to seek help earlier.

Together, we can normalise open conversations about maternal mental health, without minimising or dismissing the challenges many parents face.

Join us as we encourage people to look beyond the term ‘baby blues’, and ensure it’s not being used to invalidate real issues that deserve support.”]

How important is support at birth?
It’s everything. 💜 A doula isn’t there to take over, she’s there to hold space, bring calm, and remind you of the strength you already have.

✨ Because sometimes all it takes is that quiet and steady presence supporting you the right way.

Lyndsey D’Errico - Doula

I was born on the South Coast of England where I grew up. I studied further along the coast and then worked for the government with children in care.

In 2006 I moved to Ireland, where I met my American husband and gave birth to three of my beautiful children. All three births were entirely different and traumatic in their own ways. Two were inductions, one with an epidural and one without and the third was an emergency cesarean section. I had never heard of a Doula and just went with everything that was given to me and done to me and my babies.

We eventually moved to the Orlando area of Florida and a year later were excited to be expecting our fourth child. At 36 weeks I experienced a placental abruption and sadly, we didn’t get to the hospital in time. I had a second emergency cesarean and we had a few days to say goodbye to our sweet stillborn son.

From that moment, something that had been bubbling in side me since I had my very first child came to the fore... I knew I wanted to make a difference in the lives of other mamas like me. Not just those who have lost (but of course those too) but in the lives of anyone who dreams of a birth that is as beautiful and wonderful as it should be.
