**Not an April Fools**

Congratulations to Dr O’Donnell who retired last night after 19 years at Colliery Court Medical Group. We’ll miss him very much and wish him all the best for his retirement.

We welcome Dr Ravinder Grewal to the practice and hope he has as many happy years at Colliery Court as Dr O’Donnell did.

Today also marks the beginning of a new contract for general practice. This has been a challenge for practices as we have had to increase our provision of urgent on the day care with no extra resources. This has had an impact on availability of online bookable routine appointments and we apologise for this.

We hope further negotiations may ease the pressure on general practice, but until then we will be testing a new appointment layout and tweaking this as we go along.

Please remember if you require an urgent on the day appointment you will be given a time to attend. We don’t have the flexibility of times as we do for routine medical problems.

Good Friday - CLOSED
Saturday - CLOSED
Sunday - CLOSED
Easter Monday - CLOSED
Tuesday 7th - open as usual

Please order any prescriptions that may run out over the bank holiday weekend.

Some pharmacies will be open limited hours over the weekend and can assist with minor ailments such as sore throats including tonsillitis, ear pain for children and UTIs. Speak to your pharmacy for more information.

Private Non-NHS Work

The practice has put a hold on accepting requests for private work until April 2026. This work is non-contractual and can be completed by other private providers in the area. The practice will provide an update on this service in April 2026.

You can check a vaccination history on the nhs app, checking your child's red book or by calling reception.

The meningitis B vaccine was included in the childhood vaccination schedule in 2015 and is given to all babies at 8 weeks, 12 weeks and 1 year old. Any children outside of this age range would need to seek vaccination by a private provider.

What do parents need to know about measles?

Measles spreads easily and can make children very poorly.

Look out for:
🤒 High fever
😮‍💨 Cough and runny nose
👀 Sore eyes
🔴 A blotchy rash (usually starts on the face and behind the ears)

If you think your child has measles, keep them at home and call your GP or NHS 111.

The MMRV vaccine is the best way to protect them – check they’re up to date.
