Only 1 day to go until Bolton Wanderers Official # match, Level Playing Field campaign for accessibility.
We are proud to be supporting this campaign. Football should be accessible and should be for all.

Family 🥰

Many of us used to go with our parents or grandparents and now take our children or maybe even grand children.

We will have memories that will last a lifetime, some good, some not so good, some fantastic ones!

There's one thing being Bolton fan, we all have football family too 🤍

International wheelchair day, 1st March 2026.

Although not all our members / BWFC fans with a disability are wheelchair users, some fans are.

The reality for fans who are wheelchair users (in general not specific to a club):

♿ Access - limited entrances, broken lifts, difficult routes, uneven paths, high kerbs.

👀 Viewing - blocked sightlines, fans standing infront of wheelchair platforms or in gangways, stadium structure causing blocked sightline, not enough spaces together

🚻 Facilities - too few accessible toilets, not always a Changing Places Toilet, fans using accessible toilets to avoid queues in toilets therefore creating longer queues for disabled fans.

🚗 Travel - very limited parking, often difficult to book, public transport can be inaccessible, cost.

🍔 Refreshments - high counters, crowded concourses, not easy to navigate through with a wheelchair, heavy doors making it impossible for wheelchair user or relative/friend/personal assistant to push a chair and carry refreshments.

🎟️ Ticketing - complicated booking systems, often have too book disabled fan and other family members separately, including for away matches, some clubs make disabled fans contact them directly for disabled ticket, but remainder of family purchase through own club. Not all fans able to use ticketless option, fans with disability and family members often seated separately.

🌧️ Exposure - little shelter from weather, often exposed to all the elements with no option to move to shelter from the rain.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Inclusion - lack of awareness, feeling left out, disability slurs, not always aimed at the fans but often disability slurs shouted at players / match officals, disability slurs are never acceptable!

Football should be for all

8 days until Bolton Wanderers Official fixture.

Here's 8 statements from fans with a disability

1️⃣ Football is part of my identity - supporting Bolton is part of me and my identity. I could never imagine supporting any other team.

2️⃣ Accessible stadiums are important, it allows me to go to the match with indepdance and not have to rely on others.

3️⃣ I love the atmosphere when the fans get behind the team. I want to safely be a part of that, and be included. The atmosphere can really change a game.

4️⃣ Attending the match is a huge part of my life, but I need to know I have the right facilities. I need to know that I have a Changing Places, so that my carer does not have to change me on the floor. I need to know I have a clear view of the pitch without people standing in front of me. I want to enjoy the match and not have to worry about facilities or views.

5️⃣ There is nothing better than celebrating a Bolton goal, whether that be at home or on an away day. I want to be able to celebrate with family and friends as others do. At home, we have that option, but why not away. Other fans get to sit with their friends or family.

6️⃣ After a week of stress, and daily challenges. Football at the weekend brings me joy.

7️⃣ I have seen improvements in accessibility and inclusiveness, but there is still a long way to go. I still hear disability slurs being thrown around, or being used on social media. I still see ignorance from fans, with no consideration when blocking the view of a fan in a wheelchair. If we continue to raise these issues through campaigns such as Unite For Access, one day football will be fully accessible and inclusive, and more fans will be able to enjoy watching the match without fear of discrimination or blocked views.

8️⃣ Access to football isn't a luxury, it is a basic right. Other fans can attend a match without barriers, why can't I?

⚽️ Disabled fans aren’t asking for extra — we’re asking for equal. Football should be for everyone, in every stand, every week at every match.

Please take a few minutes to watch Level Playing Field video. Another fantastic video from LPF highlighting fans personal experiences and why it is important to make football or any sport inclusive.

We hear many personal experiences and why football is important to people and what it means to them. Imagine not being able to attend football due to barriers.

Football is home. Football is family. Football is pride. Football is joy. Football is frustration. Football should be accessible to all.
