BREATH 🫁

So simple, so essential to life, but yet so often we become disconnected from our breath. Conscious connection to breath, with mindful practice can help us reconnect with ourselves. Using our breath we can help control the body's response to stressful situations, calming our nervous system and reducing pain and inflammatory responses.

This photograph was taken in sub zero temperatures as I prepared to enter water that was 0°C in Helsinki, Finland. Controlling my breath enabled me to control my body's cold shock response remaining calm as I immersed into the icy waters.

Similarly yesterday, as I underwent a minor medical procedure with some discomfort as it was carried out, I returned to the breath, my body and mind responded easing into a calm state as I breathed through the pain.
