Today's Re-Freshing One Minute Motivation

Games Without Frontiers*

* I wrote this 5 years ago and it's even more relevant today than ever

Countries are funny aren't they?

Think about it, many countries have borders with other countries they are hostile to, why ?

Someone has drawn an imaginary line down the landscape and said that those living this side, live in this country and those the other side live in a different country, plus we are going to stop them coming here and us going there.

Berlin Wall
Cyprus
North and South Korea
USA and Mexico ?
Ukraine and Russia
Someone wants to add Canada & Greenland to that ....

In Europe, the borders have changed over 200 times in 500 years.

'Ah Simon!' you say,' UK is an island' you may say.

Hadrian's Wall ?
Offers D**e ?

We all live on one planet, that is the only real border, that is even being challenged, we may live on other planets one day.

So my invitation to you, is look at the world differently, as we are all residents of a planet that's Millions of years old, that on average we only spend 70-80 years living on.

Doesn't it make sense to get on with people more, rather than the opposite ?

So this day, my challenge to you is to find someone from a country you've not spoken to before and find out about their life.

Chances are it's similar to yours.

Today ReFreshing One Minute Motivation

"La Dolce Vita - the Simon way"

Happy Birthday - Italian Style

As I enter my 6th decade today, whilst with beautiful friends in Italy, I felt I'd share something about Italian life we can all adopt,wherever we are.

1. **Dolce Far Niente**:

This phrase means "the sweetness of doing nothing." It emphasizes enjoying free time and relishing moments of relaxation and leisure without feeling guilty or pressured to be productive.

2. **La Passeggiata**:

This is the traditional evening stroll. It's not just a walk but a social ritual where people gather to enjoy leisurely walks, connect with the community, and engage in friendly conversations.

3. **La Famiglia**:

Family is central to Italian life.

This concept underscores the importance of familial bonds, shared meals, and time spent with loved ones as a cornerstone of happiness and stability.

And if you're like me who has no family locally, family can be beautiful wonderful friends!

4. **Il Bel Far Niente**:

Similar to "Dolce Far Niente," this translates to "the beauty of doing nothing." It emphasizes the joy and aesthetic pleasure in relaxation, encouraging mindfulness and appreciating life's small, beautiful moments.

Sitting yesterday watching people and things in a piazza in Verona, it helped soothe calm and relax me.

5. **Caffè Culture**:

Coffee in Italy is not just a drink; it's a cultural experience.

The routine of enjoying an espresso at the bar or a leisurely cappuccino with friends reinforces the importance of savoring simple pleasures.

6. **Regional Pride in Food and Wine**: Italians have a strong connection to their regional culinary traditions, appreciating locally-sourced ingredients and time-honored recipes. This concept emphasizes the value of quality, tradition, and regional diversity in food and drink.

These concepts reflect a broader Italian approach to life that values relaxation, community, tradition, and savoring simplicity.

Finding Love in Yourself This V-Day

Ah, Valentine’s Day is sneaking up again!

While everyone’s busy hoarding chocolates and flowers, here’s a twist – how about falling utterly in love... with yourself?

Honestly, there’s no better time!

Before you get lost in the lovey-dovey lands, make sure to give a little round of applause to the stellar person staring back in the mirror.

Self-love isn't about a perfect selfie or chasing some ideal form set by others.

Nope, it's all about being wonderfully you—quirky bits and all!

Think of self-love like giving yourself a massive, comfy hug.

It’s about applauding the things that make you tick—your fabulous personality, contagious laugh, and yes, those quirky little habits you think no one's noticed.

Loving yourself means taking care of the most important person in your life—YOU!

Whether it’s munching on some healthy snacks, catching up on sleep, or kicking self-doubt out of your head space.

This Valentine’s offers the perfect chance to kick off this love affair with yourself. Fancy trying some of these?

1. **Mirror Pep-Talks**: Spend a moment being your very own cheerleader. Seriously, give yourself credit for everything you’re smashing at!

2. Treats Galore: Pamper yourself with whatever brings joy—a lovely bath? Sorted. Binge-watching telly? Absolutely.

3. Positive Self-Chats: Look in the mirror, flash that enchanting smile, and give yourself a little pep talk (“You can do this!”).

4. Guard Your Energy: Get comfy saying "no" when needed—it's your life, and you’re steering the ship.

As love whirls about this V-Day, remember the grandest love story starts with loving yourself first. It not only brightens your world but means you’re all set if someone else comes along.

When others see Us better than we see Us ?

Group coaching is a transformative journey for many individuals.

It also allows ourselves to be viewed as others and show us different views, thoughts and beliefs.

Let's talk about how people see the world differently, shall we?

Imagine two £1 coins. Some folks might see "2 x £1 coins," while others notice "a head and a tail," or view them as "2 bits of copper metal."

Meanwhile, another group might just focus on "£2 in total."

Remember that viral video’ where a basketball game was happening, and a man in a gorilla suit walked right through it?

Some people never even noticed the gorilla because they were so focused on counting passes!
