65 Squadron has been in Bridgwater since the late 40's, at various locations around the Bridgwater area. We recruit and train young people in aviation studies, Drill and Discipline, Leadership skills and The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme to name but a few. Other activities that we offer are Flying and Gliding, Shooting and Btec Studies, which can enhance your GCSE results. We don't restrict ourselves to just recruiting young people who wish to join the armed force's either. Yes, a percentage of cadets do eventually join the armed force's, and being in an organisation such as this, does help if you wish to join up, but we are a disciplined youth organisation with qualified Voluntary Adult Instructors who give up there time to help encourage and promote good citizenship, Leadership and confidence in the young community. We can except from the age of between 12 years (School Year 8) as the minimum and 16.5 years as the maximum, although cadets can stay until 18 or 20 depending on Corps status. We meet twice a week at our Cadet Training Centre, Frian Avenue, between 19:15 and 21:30. These evening our staff and cadets braved the freezing weather to go out and do their monthly fitness tests. Good running performances by all and some exceptional press up and sit up results.

Last night we held our latest intake night and squadron handover ceremony.

Seven potential recruits and their parents turned up and after a powerpoint presentation they got involved in activities such as first aid, sports as well as trying their hand at the squadrons flight simulator.

At the end of the evening, 6 cadets who recently passed their st john youth first aid red badge award, were presented their certificates by the chairman of South Western Ambulance Service NHS foundation trust, Heather Strawbridge OBE.
Following the presentation it was time to hand over the squadron to the new Commanding Officer Flt Lt Ben Sunderland RAF VR(T) from Flt Lt Chris Garrett RAF VR(T) who after nearly four years of being in charge is transferring to 290 (Weston-super-Mare & Burnham) squadron.
Thank you to all that attended and made the evening a success.

Recruiting cadets aged 12 years (in year 8) to 17 years old who have an interest in aviation and adventure!

Also....

Adults aged 21 years and over who would like the challenge of volunteering with young men and women, helping them to achieve their potential

Staff can learn to teach in subjects such as drill and ceremonial, shooting, adventure training, first aid etc

Someone call a first aider!

Cadets were treated to a casualty simulation and a first aid exercise tonight which tested their artistic flare by making wounds then using their command and first aid skills to assess, treat and extricate casualties to a waiting treatment team. A great and messy evening!
