Founders face a particular set of pressures that just keep on coming โ€“ deadlines, tough decisions, and the constant weight of responsibility. So, how do you stay mentally strong and focused when things get tough?

Picture this: your business is flourishing, you feel great and you are already enjoying your success.

If you can, then you'll be able to use visualisation. The creative art of creating mental images combined with feeling is be a powerful tool to help you turn a dream into real life experience.

When I'm working with founders, I've seen firsthand how powerful visualisation exercises are. It's not wishful thinking โ€“ it's about harnessing the power of your mind to set clear goals, improve focus, and boost your confidence in achieving your vision.

One way this happens is down to the A part of the brain which functions as an information filtering system. The RAS seems to filter and select only relevant information based on our intentions, deep held beliefs, and the type of thinking models we use. So, by creating an inner experience of intention and clarity, we can harness the role of the RAS to align actions to move toward the vision ๐Ÿ’ญ

How can you put visualisation to work for your business? Find few simple steps in the slides.

Keep in mind that visualisation is a ๐—ฝ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ฐ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜€, not a magic trick. But by incorporating it into your routine, you can harness the power of your mind and set yourself up for success.

Running a business can feel like swimming in the rapids at times. You've got a million ideas, a ton of passion, but maybe you're missing that secret weapon: a strong network. ๐Ÿค๐Ÿป

Connections are currency in the business world. The right people can open doors to collaboration, inspiration, people and opportunities. You can't do this without them (or them without you).

So, how do you, the busy founder with a full schedule, start building a powerful network? Here are some strategies I've found helpful.

Keep in mind that building a strong network takes time, attention and effort. Be patient, be yourself, and focus on creating genuine connections. You'll gain valuable insights, access new opportunities, and share your skills and knowledge with others. Maybe even find some good friends along the way.ย

Feeling stuck and unmotivated? Let's figure out what you can do about it.

Here's what I do to get myself moving again:

โœ๐Ÿป Identify the Blocker:
First, I pinpoint exactly where I'm stuck. Is it a specific area? A decision to make? A personal goal that's lost its spark?

โœ๐Ÿป Dig Deeper:
Then, I explore the "why" behind the block. Am I afraid of failure? Uncertain of the next step? Worried about stepping into not knowing? - Find the meaning (and it's connected emotion) behind the issue and we are on the path to overcoming the problem.

Once I understand the root cause, it's easier to:

โ˜‘ Remember My Wins: Hey, I've overcome challenges before and I am resourceful. Recalling past victories demonstrates skill and resilience plus if builds confidence.

โ˜‘ Embrace Courage: Bravery goes a long way. I combine past successes with my new insights plus a dose of courage to take that first step forward.

Understanding the 'where, how and why' can help you shift your mindset and get unstuck. Remember your past accomplishments! You've overcome challenges before, and you have the capability to do it again. Combine past evidence with a little courage, and watch your Mindset of Action ignite!

Have you ever frozen but unit sure why?
Maybe really angry even when it doesn't seem that important?

The nervous system 'states' are responding to our interpretations of events all the time. To be skilful in life, it's powerful to understand this

Our nervous system's threat detection mechanism, designed for survival in ancient times, can often get over-stimulated in modern society. Things like worrying about social acceptance, financial stability, or business deals can trigger the same physiological responses as facing a predator in the primal wild. Understanding this reflex is key to managing anxiety and stress. Also, how to appropriately these states to respond effectively.

The Polyvagal Theory, developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, explores the connection between the nervous system, our emotional state, and social behavior. It provides a framework for understanding the nervous system's role in our response to perceived threats, building upon the basic Fight, Flight, Freeze response.

In simple terms:
โœ” When we feel safe and secure, the ventral vagal circuit is active, allowing us to experience flow.
โœ” If danger is perceived, the system might shift to the sympathetic mode for fight or flight.
โœ” In extreme situations, if neither fight nor flight is possible, the dorsal vagal circuit activates, leading to a shut down response.

Unfortunately, staying in a state of flow at all times isn't entirely realistic or even desirable. Our bodies and minds need variety and downtime to function optimally. However, by understanding the Polyvagal Theory and the Fight, Flight, Freeze, Flow chart, we can create conditions that promote flow more frequently throughout our day.

I show people how to move through these states skilfully by uncovering the beliefs and interpretations that influence the nervous system. By using Mindset and breath control strategies you really can get a handle on how you respond to the most difficult challenges.

Isn't it wonderful when someone really listens to us?

Communication is a two-way flow, and mastering these key skills can transform you into a confident and captivating communicator:

โ“The Art of the Powerful Question:
Forget generic inquiries. Craft questions that spark conversation and truly delve into the other person's perspective.

โ“Deep Listening - Be Present, Not Passive:
Ditch the "waiting for my turn to talk" mentality and give your full attention. Absorb their words and be genuinely interested.

โ“Connect with your Body while you Communicate:
Imagine your physicality as an anchor, grounding your voice and lending weight to your words. This mind-body connection creates a powerful "gravitational pull" that draws your audience in and amplifies your message.

Connect from a place of deep listening and physical connection, and watch your confidence soar and your connections smile - it is wonderful to be really heard.

How do you know if you're an effective leader?

With years spent coaching leaders and entrepreneurs, there's one thing I know for sure: leadership starts with self-leadership. It all starts with understanding yourself โ€“ your identity and values, your blind spots, and how you best make an impact in the world.

Leadership isn't magic โ€“ it's a skill to be honed and developed. The foundation starts with self-awareness and the realisation of these principles:

1โƒฃ The Foundation of Great Leadership: Self-awareness is the bedrock. You need to understand your core values, what truly motivates you.

2โƒฃ Lead by Example: People follow what they see. Demonstrate the values, principles, and attributes you want to see in yourself and others. Authenticity is key!

3โƒฃ Embrace Adaptability: There's no one-size-fits-all leadership style. Learn your natural style, but be flexible. Adjust your approach based on who you're working with to get the best results.

A full mind is an unproductive one (and unhealthy too).

As a coach for over 10 years, I've had my fair share of busy schedules. Even today, demands on my time and attention can mount up. In the past, I was someone with a busy mind and a bias toward stress.

Sounds familiar?
But I've learned is the importance of staying calm amidst the chaos. Controlling one's mind is strength. โ€

Here's a practice I use regularly: Creating Mental Space. As with most advanced skills, it's simple with powerful results. Here's how it works:
Focus on Your Breath: Take at least 10 deep, mindful breaths. 4 seconds in, 6 seconds out. Notice how your body feels with each inhale and exhale. Breath control calms the nervous system and anchors you in the present moment.
Body Awareness: Give yourself a quick body scan. Start anywhere but stay in the body. Are you tense? Do your shoulders need a roll? Physical awareness grounds attention in the body and away from the thinking mind.
Presence: To let go of worries about the past or future, realise that in this moment, those thoughts are abstractions. Right now you are OK. Stay with this breath, connect to your body and listen to where there is space in between any thoughts. This creates a mental "oasis" in your day, no matter how busy.

This simple practice creates a much-needed "oasis of space" in my day, even if it's just for a few minutes. I use this between client work and tasks, and it gives me a renewed sense of calm and clarity.

Try these steps to find your own oasis and do let me know how it work for you.

Having a clear purpose creates energy and leads to fulfilment. But how do we do it?

Purpose is something we create from within. It's a beautiful blend of:
โœ”๏ธ Your values (what truly matters to you)
โœ”๏ธYour beliefs (how you see the world)
โœ”๏ธConnecting to something greater than only your self
โœ”๏ธThe actions you take each day to make it a reality

I help my clients by identifying their values.
What do they truly care about?
What truly matters to them?
Values are important because they guide our beliefs and behaviour. We all live by our values but don't always know what they are.

For example, I value freedom.
This shapes the way I think and act in running my business, managing my lifestyle, and cultivating my mindset. If I don't feel free, then I am misaligned with this value, which clashes with what matters to me.

We have numerous values that matter to each of us. Once we've uncovered these, we look how they align with our beliefs and behaviours work - all steps to creating purpose. To create (or uncover) our life's purpose, we need to connect with how we feel, our emotions. And, most importantly, understand what meaning this gives us.

Purpose, for most of us, is about connecting to something greater than only us as an individual.

If you need help on connecting to your core beliefs, I am only a message away.

Do you feel your mind and body are in conflict?

We all have an inner ecosystem, where thoughts, feelings, and physical systems are intricately connected. They all affect each other.

This means that feeling stressed can drain your energy, and a negative self-image can dim your mood. But the good news is, it also works the other way around. By taking care of one part of yourself, such as your emotional state will affect your thinking and body - you nourish the whole system.

Want to learn how to cultivate your inner ecosystem for a more productive, happier, healthier you? Head to my Mindset Mood and Movement podcast on sal.fm for more practical tips and insightful conversations on this matter.

Our Story

I'm an Mindset Coach, Contemporary Psychotherapist PG Dip, Group Facilitator and Yoga Teacher. In our modern culture, we have many personal, professional and social challenges that need a integrated approach to dealing with. Simply put, one method may not be enough to overcome these challenges and alchemise them into opportunities for growth. My strength is to help people find their own inner mental and emotional strength and create a future of choice and autonomy. I do this using a fusion of psychology, NLP, language, neuroscience, behavioural change, self-awareness, mindfulness and how our neurology and physiology works in combination with our thoughts and emotions. When we make powerful changes within us it often reflects in our experience of life and in the world around us
