🤕 Sprain or Strain? Spot the Signs! 🤕

Sprains and strains are common injuries — whether from sports, lifting, or just a wrong step. But do you know how to recognise them?

🔍 Signs of a Sprain (Ligament injury):

🔴 Swelling or bruising around a joint
⚡ Sudden pain after twisting or impact
🚫 Limited movement or instability

💪 Signs of a Strain (Muscle or tendon injury):

💥 Sharp pain when moving or lifting
😣 Muscle weakness or cramping

🔵 Tenderness or bruising

🧊 First Aid – Remember R.I.C.E:
✅ Proctect it from further injury
✅ Rest the injured area
✅ Ice for 15-20 mins to reduce swelling
✅ Compression with a bandage
✅ Elevate the limb

⚠️ If pain is severe or movement is impossible — seek medical help.
Stay safe! A little knowledge goes a long way.

🧠💛 First Aid for Mental Health — Be There When It Matters 💛🧠

Just like physical first aid, mental health first aid is about spotting early signs, offering support, and guiding someone to professional help.

🔍 Signs Someone Might Need Mental Health First Aid:
😔 Persistent sadness, anxiety, or mood changes
💤 Fatigue, trouble concentrating, or withdrawing from others
😡 Irritability or unusual anger
🗣️ Talking about hopelessness or self-harm

🆘 How to Help:
✅ Approach calmly — ask how they’re feeling
✅ Listen without judgment — give them space to talk
✅ Reassure and support — let them know help is available
✅ Guide to professional support — encourage reaching out to trained mental health services

❌ Do NOT ignore the signs or try to “fix” the problem yourself

💡 Tip: Being aware and acting early can make a huge difference.

🚨 Could Something Be Embedded in a Wound? Know the Signs! 🚨

An embedded object is when something sharp like glass, metal, or wood becomes lodged in the skin or deeper tissues. It might not always be obvious — so look out for the warning signs:

✅ Signs & Symptoms of an Embedded Object:

📍 Visible object stuck in the wound
💢 Severe pain or tenderness in the area
🎯 Swelling or bruising around the site
💉 Bleeding that won’t stop or returns after cleaning
🔥 Warmth, redness, or pus — possible signs of infection
🛑 Restricted movement if near a joint or muscle

⚠️ Do NOT try to pull it out yourself!
Removing it incorrectly can cause more bleeding or internal damage.

👉 What to do:

Keep the object in place
Apply pressure around the wound to control bleeding
Immobilise the area
Seek medical help immediately

🩹 Stay safe — knowing the signs could prevent serious complications!

🔥 Burns Happen in Seconds — Do You Know What To Do? 🔥

From kitchen mishaps to workplace accidents, burns are one of the most common injuries — but also one of the most misunderstood when it comes to first aid.

🔍 Types of Burns & Their Signs:

1️⃣ Superficial (First Degree):
Red, dry skin
Mild pain or tenderness

2️⃣ Partial Thickness (Second Degree):
Blistering
Swelling and intense pain
Wet or shiny appearance

3️⃣ Full Thickness (Third Degree):
White, charred or leathery skin
Little or no pain due to nerve damage — still extremely serious!

🆘 First Aid — The 3 C’s:
✅ Cool the burn immediately with cool running water for at least 20 minutes
✅ Cover with cling film or a clean non-fluffy cloth

✅ Call for medical help if:
Burn is deep, larger than your hand, or on face, hands, feet or ge****ls

❌ Do NOT:
Use ice, creams, oils, butter or toothpaste
Burst blisters
Remove anything stuck to the burn

⚠️ Act fast — the first few minutes make all the difference!

🚨 Cold Water Shock: Don’t Underestimate the Cold ❄️

At JB Training and Events, we train people to stay calm, act safely, and save lives.

Know the warning signs:

⚡ Sudden gasping
⚡ Rapid breathing
⚡ Panic or disorientation
⚡ Loss of muscle control

If cold water shock strikes:

🧊 Float on your back
🧊 Focus on slow breaths
🧊 Avoid swimming immediately
🧊 Call 999 if someone needs help
