I can’t actually believe this is happening!! 😊 Hoo-rah! X

This is part of the summary of the report released at the end of last month by the Women and Equalities Committee entitled ‘Changing the perfect picture: an inquiry into body image’.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Now, there are many easy ways to downplay this, but let’s not do that for a second and just acknowledge: THIS IS A BIG DEAL.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Not only is the discriminatory nature of the use of the BMI being called out, but Public Health England is being advised to use a HAES approach... by a UK parliamentary government committee. This is massive.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Will everything suddenly change? No. But for these conversations to be had in the UK public sphere, and not just by a few influencers and health care professionals on social media, is an incredible step in the right direction.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Keep making noise. Keep calling this stuff out. You’re making a difference.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Also... can we just take the time to applaud the sentence later on in the report that says: “The Government’s latest Obesity Strategy is at best ineffective and at worst perpetuating unhealthy behaviours.” What a breath of fresh air.

Been a long time huh???

I know that some people are finding this whole body image thing hard, particularly at the moment.

A friend sent me this today and I thought I’d share in case you need to hear it. Thanks Rebecca ###

This! 🙌 And also, because we are all different, unique in our own special ways. We aren’t all supposed to be one body type.... 💕x

Dear dedicated one,
I used to think there were only two things on this list. What a kid ate and how much exercise they got. It's both a relief and a shock to know how wrong I was.

I've since learned that calories in and calories out doesn't have much impact at all, as it happens, on the size we or our kids are.

If you're in the process of learning all the different things that contribute to our size (and why for the very vast majority of us there is very little we can do to make ourselves smaller - at least in a way that actually improves our health) - you're in the right place.

I'm here to share everything I know about raising body confident kids, regardless of what size or shape or ability or health status they have.

I love your dedication to your kids,
Emma 💖

So it’s been quite a while since I last posted anything remotely personal on here.

Since I slipped my disc in the summer I’ve been a bit at sea. It rocked me in a huge way that’s not easy to explain. It was a trauma for sure and it took a long time to recover. I think I still am recovering to be honest.

There was no way I could carry on working full time whilst trying to keep my business afloat. My first priority has to be myself and my family, and with this in mind I’ve been looking inwards and focusing on myself.

Looking after myself, instead of trying to change the world I guess, which felt SO important before and so exciting.

I think in a way, throwing myself into Body Positivity was a welcome distraction from the huge gaping hole I felt when my mum died. It occupied most of my waking thoughts and I felt so much release from things I’d experienced in the past and so much hope for the future.

But it wasn’t to be. It turned into something that made me feel really stressed and triggered, a lot of the time.

I didn’t have the self confidence to make it work, I found the constant marketing of it emotionally exhausting and soooo frustrating at times. Because I wanted to help people, not sell to people.

I LOVE working with women. I love helping people find the joy that improving your relationship with food brings. But I sure didn’t love the marketing and the ‘look at me’ aspect.

And, I’ve changed. It’s been over 3 years since my mum died and I started My Body Positive.

So this is almost a goodbye. I’ve got a lot going on at home and a lot going on a work. I don’t have the headspace to devote to changing the world. I do though, still wholeheartedly believe in intuitive & mindful eating and Body Positivity.

I will still help people if they want to work on this stuff. I couldn’t not. But I’m not posting, I’m not going free talks and no, I don’t want anyone’s help with SEO! (I keep getting emails asking me if I want this!)

I want to continue learning about the important stuff. About relationships, about connection, about how we get past difficult periods and I don’t know how yet, but I’m on my own path.

And that’s ok xx

This is a blog written by my friend Emma Wright a Family Body Confidence Consultant in response to me asking if she'd ever written anything to help parents who were concerned that their child is 'getting fat.'

Just to explain, this is not my question- the question stems from a conversation a friend of mine was having with someone. Complicated huh?!

The answer does not lie in slimming clubs, or in a weight focus, the answer is here:

Thank you Emma, for taking the time to do this 💕xx
