Part of the joys of moving to a new city is some spare time to read a book and then review the book!

Read my review of Coming of Age by Dr Lucy Foulkes. An incredible, respectful exploration of adolescence and its highs and lows.

Perfect for anyone who was once a teenager or has a teenager/child approaching their teen years.

Chapter 3: The Land We Inherit
The land on which we can build our sense of self is also shaped by what we inherit from the generations that came before us.

Chapter 2: The Land We Are Born Into
How we perceive what a self even is depends on the environment into which we are born: our physical environment, geographical, cultural, religious, political, economical and social conditions. It will continue to shape us our whole lives but it starts from the moment we are conceived.

Let me tell you a story of how you came to be...

Chapter 1: The Land We Settled On
Your story starts before you were even an idea in your parents' heads. The beginning of your story starts with where your ancestors ended and all that you inherited as a human being.

Join me for a six-week online course on Embodiment.

“Relaxed and informative introduction to embodiment. Lucy oversaw an environment that was open and educational.”

It's the perfect course for anyone who is a counsellor/therapist or works with clients' bodies. Anyone who finds it hard trust their 'gut' instinct or hear bodily cues like hunger or stress. Anyone who struggles to like or value their body. Or anyone who feels they spend too much time thinking and intelletualising over feeling.

The course will explore embodiment and how to find balance in the relationship between body and mind. We'll look at the body/mind connection and how that feels, what beliefs and messaging we hear about bodies, how to tune into what our bodies tell us and how trauma and experience is stored.

This isn't chalk and talk teaching. Sessions will be interactive with things to try, wholehearted discussion and reflective activities.

Six sessions. Every Monday from 2nd March. 5.30-7.00pm. Online. One payment of £60. Limited to six places.

Email lucyjaynecounselling@gmail.com for more information or visit https://lucyjaynecounselling.co.uk/courses-and-workshops/

It's been quiet since New Year as I've been busy with moving and winding down the business in the North East but next week I'm going to start working on my next video series which is all about identity and how we create a sense of self. Turns out there's a lot to building a sense of self!
I'm going to tell a chronological, slightly science-based but also theroretical-based story of how we end up feeling like ourselves and the ways in which that gets disrupted.

January is often seen as a month of fresh starts and new adventures and that's certainly true at LucyJayne Counselling this month!

I am thrilled to announce that, as of February 1st, LucyJayne Counselling is moving to Manchester. Not only that, but I've already found myself a beautifully calm and nurturing therapeutic space at .

As you can see from the photos, it's an amazing space for a whole lot of reasons:
- beautifully decorated to create a warm, confidential environment along with a waiting room with tea, coffee and the most comfortable armchairs ever!
- discrete and well-located in Sale with parking and excellent local transport links (5 mins from Sale station).
- sessions available 5 days a week at a variety of hours.

It will be hard to leave Newcastle, a place of amazing friends, clients and support, but, as change is inevitable, I'm excited to embrace the challenges and opportunities the future holds.

LucyJayne Counselling is closed for Christmas and New Year. I'll be back in January after a well-earned rest!

Whether you love it or hate it or are somewhere inbetween, Christmas is here. It's a time when emotions are intensified, absences feel stronger and the messaging and expectations can create unrealistic pressures.

Please remember, amongst the festive chaos, you are allowed to feel sad, you are allowed to grieve and you are allowed to take time out for yourself.

Wishing you peace, joy and moments of laughter and hope!

Episode #9 of Terrible TV and Film Therapists and my final one!

Today I'm talking about Loudermilk, a series about an embittered addictions counsellor and his imperfect use of his own lived experience to support his group's sobriety.

There are more terrible TV and film therapists out there so I'm sure there'll more one off episodes in the future!

Episode #8 Terrible TV and Film Therapists

Today we head over to Big Boys from Channel 4 to a therapist whose oversharing of all his troubles may just damage the therapeutic relationship. On the plus side, however, he is good at recognising his limitations when it comes to medication advice and diagnosis.
