If your body could ask for one small thing right now to feel safer, what would it be?
This question is so important, especially for those of us who have experienced harm in whatever form that comes, because our body is used to censorship. It’s used to suppressing the very feelings and responses that our mind is telling us could get us into trouble. So saying what we want, saying what we need, speaking up for ourselves.
When you ask yourself what is one small thing right now that you need to feel safer, you are saying that you deserve safety. You deserve to feel safe in your body and your mind. Safety isn’t just about survival. Safety is about you giving yourself permission to thrive. When we feel safe, we do things that sometimes feel impossible.
If you cannot think of one small thing right now that would help you to feel safer, then I want you simply to sit and repeat the words, I deserve to feel safe, and just notice what comes up. There’s no need to put a value judgment on it, but your body will let you know, because your body is so intelligent. It’s always showing you, telling you what it needs.
And you deserve the peace of learning to trust how you feel, not what you think other people think you should feel.
