Courage in Small Steps: This week's inspiration

We often associate courage with gargantuan, visible acts.

However, most of the courage we need on a Monday morning shows up quietly.

▶️ It’s asking one honest question.
▶️ It’s setting one clear boundary.
▶️ It’s choosing one small action we’ve been postponing.

When we steady ourselves at the start of the week, small steps are more than enough.
We don’t need bravery on a grand scale.
We just need to move a little closer to what matters.

🔆 This year, organisations are asking a different question.

❓ Not “What qualifications do people have?” but “What can they actually do at work?”❓

🔆 We are seeing a growing gap between certification and capability.

🔆 People may be highly trained on paper, yet struggle with communication, facilitation or confidence in real situations.

🔆 Beyond the training room, capability shows up in behaviour, not badges.

💡 When commissioning training, ask for three examples of what delegates will be able to do differently within two weeks. If the answer is vague, the programme is likely to stay in theory.

💡 Fun fact: Thanks to the Zeigarnik Effect, our brains stay alert until tasks feel “complete” — which might explain why we trainers carry everything just in case (including festive biscuits by December).

🔺As the year draws to a close, it’s easy to get caught up in busyness, loose ends, and end-of-year faff.

🔺Leaders who stand out at this time are the ones who bring clarity — not more noise.

🔺Clarity gives people direction and purpose. Without it, teams hesitate.

🔺With it, they move forward calmly and confidently, even in the busiest season.
