📣 Training Spotlight: Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training

​This week marks a major step forward for our team! We are thrilled to have our first staff members attending the mandatory Tier 2 Oliver McGowan Training! 🧠

​Getting this essential training off the ground has been a significant challenge for us. As a provider, finding courses that didn't require us to release full staff teams for a full day—which we simply couldn't manage while maintaining safe staffing levels—proved to be incredibly difficult. We were facing a real roadblock with only full-day, paid options available.

​That's where the amazing partnership with the Bury Care Academy came in! 🤝

​We raised our dilemma with their team, and in response, they generously offered us the opportunity to spot-purchase spaces on courses they are already running. This flexibility is a game-changer!

​This is truly joint working at its finest!
​A massive thank you to the team at Bury Care Academy for supporting us and our staff in achieving this critical training standard.

Our team is looking forward to attending the courses over the coming weeks and bringing this vital knowledge back to enhance the care we provide.

💛 Introducing Our New Ice Breaker Bags 💛

We know that building trust and connection starts with the small things — a friendly chat, a shared activity, or a few minutes spent doing something together.
We also understand that not everyone finds communication easy, especially in new or unfamiliar situations.

That’s why we’re introducing Ice Breaker Bags — small, portable bags filled with adult-friendly activities and conversation starters designed to make interactions meaningful, relaxed and 'break the ice' Each bag will include simple items like:
🗣️ Conversation and mood cards
🎨 Mini mindfulness colouring
🧠 Puzzles and sensory/stress relief items
🪞Positive affirmation or grounding cards

These tools can help us get to know each customer and find shared interests, or simply make a visit relaxed and enjoyable.

💬 There’s no right or wrong way to use the bag — just explore what works best for each person.

We’d love to hear what activities or ideas you find helpful, especially when you are supporting a new customer. Please share your feedback or suggestions so we can keep improving the bags together 😁

🌟 Staff Success Spotlight: Celebrating Growth and Confidence!

We often look to our customers for inspiring success stories, but today, we want to shine the spotlight internally!

During a team meeting, we had the immense pleasure of recognising and celebrating the fantastic journey of one of our own: Kirsty Gordon!

Kirsty recently received the well-deserved Employee of the Month award—a fantastic achievement in itself! Reflecting on this accomplishment, Kirsty shared an incredibly honest and moving account of her journey with us. She recalled her initial mentoring period where she felt very nervous, lacked confidence, and was quite quiet. Fast forward to today, and Kirsty is thriving! She spoke about moving from being extremely nervous to start lone working to now oozing confidence and developing brilliant relationships with her customers who she speaks very highly of.

Kirsty's growth is a powerful testament to her dedication, growth and resilience. She shared her deep gratitude for her main mentor, Tanya, who supported, guided, and set her up in the right way. Kirsty even admitted to fearing she wouldn't pass her probationary period—but look at her now 😁

This was a beautiful and heartwarming success story that truly came to light through our team discussion, and we are really proud to share it with everyone.

Acknowledging our Incredible Mentors Kirsty’s story also highlights the fabulous work our care mentors do. Our mentors are the crucial first contact for all new members of staff. The positive feedback and evidence we receive shows that this is an extremely supportive process for our new starters working on a contracted basis.

Thank you to all our mentors for your invaluable guidance and dedication! We love stories like this that showcase personal growth, successful integration, and the positive impact of our team support.

On 22.10.25, we will be saying goodbye to someone truly extraordinary .... Mel, who has been an integral part of KV Care for the past five amazing years.

We first met Mel back in 2019, when KV Care was still a small and growing organisation. From the very beginning, we knew she was the right person for us. Her warmth, professionalism, and natural ability to connect with people made her stand out instantly ....... and she’s never stopped proving us right! Over the years, Mel has grown and evolved alongside KV Care, helping shape our culture, strengthen our teams, and support every one of you on your journey with us.

Her impact has been immeasurable, and her presence in the office has been a source of stability and kindness.

Mel is now stepping into an exciting new role with Bury Council in a fantastic opportunity that reflects her talent and dedication. While we’re incredibly sad to see her go, we’re also thrilled to watch her flourish in this next chapter. We know she’ll continue to make a difference wherever she goes, and we’re confident our paths will cross again and we will always cheer her on from afar.
