✨Meet the team part 2 – Our Nominated Individual & Co- Founder – Michael ✨

My path into the Social Care sector has been quite different to that of my colleague & business partner Kaye. 💙

I spent over 28 years as a professional Fire Fighter with Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service, serving and supporting my local community, I ran my own small business fitting kitchens and bathrooms, then went on to spend 10 years at a local nursing home, gaining valuable insight into the complexities and workings of the UK’s care system, eventually progressing to become an Assistant Manager. 💛

Kaye and I realised that we had a similar vision of how care in the community should be approached, which motivated us to set up our own business, Brighter Days Quality Care (Buxton) Ltd. 💙

Our goal is to deliver high-quality, professional care and support to those in our community who need it. But also, to go that little bit further wherever we can. 💛

We want those we support to feel valued and cared for, to feel that they matter, have help when they need it, and can remain part of the community they’ve always known, living life their way for as long as possible. 💙

✨Don't forget the clocks go back at 0200 hrs Sunday morning, the 26th October. ✨

This can be very disruptive to vulnerable people, especially those with dementia for whom a predictable, regular routine is very important, their internal body clock relies heavily on routine and light cues. Changes to this routine can cause confusion, anxiety and distress to some. 💙

Below is a post shared from the Alzheimer's Society on how to try and help minimise any potential disruption. 💛

Reminder! The clocks go back this weekend ⏰

Changing the clocks can be confusing for all of us – but for someone living with dementia it can be particularly disorientating and even distressing.

Thankfully there are a few easy things we can do to help minimise any disruption.

Consider having dinner and going to bed an hour earlier on Saturday, so that the person you’re caring for still gets enough sleep and can wake up at their usual time on Sunday.

Keep to a regular routine during the day and at bedtime. Doing regular activities at the same time each day – for example, going for a walk after breakfast – can help a person with dementia make sense of the time.

Gentle exercise outdoors can help the person feel sleepier during the evening. If this isn’t an option, keeping them active during the day can have a similar effect.

Use blackout curtains to reduce sunlight in the evening to help with body clock regulation.

Invest in an auto-setting clock for them. Reading a clock face can be tricky for some people with dementia, so often digital clocks are easier. You can also get clocks that show the day of the week and date as well as the time, and for some people a day/night clock can help them distinguish what time of day it is.

✨We recently took Woody, our 'Wellbeing Cockapoo', 😊 to visit one of our clients.✨

Both had a wonderful time, Woody, especially, thanks to the delicious treats 🦴 waiting for him! 💙

It was lovely to see the smiles (and tail wags) as Woody brought a little extra warmth and companionship to the morning. 💛

Little moments like these can truly make a big difference to a person's day. 💙

They are both looking forward to their next visit! 💛
