Mother’s Day can hold many different feelings.
For some it’s joyful and full of celebration. For others it’s complicated, quiet, heavy, or simply exhausting. One may be more visible than the other but both are equally valid.
It can bring up grief for mothers who are no longer here, longing for the mother you needed but never got, the pain of strained relationships, fertility struggles, mothers with empty arms, or the invisible and quiet labour of parenting that rarely pauses long enough to be able to draw breath.
And for many mothers, today can feel less like a celebration and more like another day of wrangling tiny humans, giving our all and holding everything together.
If today feels painful, raw, complicated, or lonely, you’re not alone in that.
Consider giving yourself the same gentleness you so often give to others. Politely (or not) tell Guilt “No thank you, do one for today”.
Remember as well that asking for help can be hard when you’re the one who helps everyone else. Self care is not selfish.
