✨ Ein Llais History Walk ✨

We had the privilege of joining Ian Thomas from The Gwent Wildlife Trust for a fascinating walk around the beautiful grounds of Cyfarthfa Castle. Along the way, we uncovered stories of Merthyr’s incredible industrial past and the vital role it played in shaping Wales.

After a lovely lunch, we explored the remains of the old furnaces from the ironworks, a powerful reminder of the town’s heritage. Our journey then took us to the iconic Pont-y-Cafnau – a 14.2-metre iron truss bridge spanning the River Taff. Built in 1793 by Watkin George for the Cyfarthfa Ironworks, this remarkable structure carried both a tramway and an aqueduct, transporting limestone and water into the works.

It was a day filled with history, nature, and community spirit – celebrating the legacy of Merthyr Tydfil while enjoying the beauty that still surrounds us. 🌿🏭🌉
