Here's your friendly reminder to start you off on another fabulous week 😃

If you’re a type A personality - thriving off of routine and structure, why not see Mondays as the day when routines come back in (they usually do anyway with the start of the school/working week), and get in the attitude of get s**t done 💪

Be sure to keep this mindset quote in mind when making your to do lists making them realistic (choose your top 3 that must be done today/this week), so it keeps you motivated rather than discouraged when you’re able to tick those things off the list 🙌

I’ve been thinking a lot about mindset shifts, because to be honest, it's the season of life I'm currently in where it's at the forefront of my personal growth, work and life journey.

My mindset has required a lot of work and continues to need work but one of the first huge changes came around when I realised that there's nothing I can't do, but I have to prioritise what I can because it can't be everything 💕

When you say "I'm too busy to eat" that just doesn’t sit with me. You could be the most important person in the world, but you're not too busy to eat - I promise.

You cannot strive to balance your hormones and reach your health goals if you're consistently under eating and under nourishing yourself. As with most things in life there are consequences and they can be pretty serious.

For example, you may put your body into acute stress over and over (and over….) again until it's chronic and chronic stress
causes inflammation which is the root of nearly ALL chronic disease.

Now I don’t want you to think I’m some saint who has never skipped a meal before, because I certainly have, usually because of a tight schedule that I’ve misjudged, but the important thing here is that I don't make it a habit.

In fact it started to become a habit when I’d work back to back meetings for 7+ straight hours without even a 5 minute break, or running here there and everywhere - except to a place I could take time out to breathe and eat. I’d realise by the end of the day, trudging home how terrible I felt both mentally and physically. So I started scheduling in a break.

Did I have to move things around - yes - did I occasionally have to say no to people - yes - but my health (and sanity) is a priority to me so it was and still is worth it. Sometimes it’s that reality check (and listening to how we’re actually feeling) that brings it home that a change is needed.

Say hello to cortisol👇🏼

Cortisol (aka the stress hormone) is made in the adrenal glands (near your kidneys) with its production controlled by the HPA axis, and is released in response to stress.

Whilst you may know cortisol from its role in our circadian rhythm (the sleep/wake cycle), or maybe as one of the main stress hormones - but it does so much more!

👉🏻 it helps to regulate blood sugar

👉🏻 it assists in the metabolism of proteins, fats and carbohydrates

👉🏻it aids digestion by stimulating gastric acid secretion

👉🏻 it helps regulate blood pressure

👉🏻 it’s a potent anti-inflammatory

If your cortisol is out of whack you might be experiencing symptoms like fatigue, dizziness, aches and pains, or even an inability to handle stress or anxiety.

If you’re experiencing some if these symptoms there may also be a cascading effect on other body systems and impacts on their functioning as well 🤯

We can check cortisol levels and your daily cortisol rhythm as part of a functional test. Why test? This helps us to determine how your body is it producing cortisol and how much is available - and whether too-high or too-low levels are contributing to how you’re feeling (or even contributing to other imbalances in the body).

More energy - yes please

Who fancies a superfood smoothie recipe that not only boosts your energy levels, helping power you through your day, but also gives your immune system a little boost too? You do?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

This great recipe does both through the power of berries with their mega antioxidant levels.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In any smoothie I prefer to use frozen berries as they make it cool whilst also thickening it up - plus it means I can have it anytime I want as I always have berries in the freezer (of course fresh work just as well (and are in season) should you have them in).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Superfood Berry Blast⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
(makes 1 serving)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
250 ml water⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
80g fresh or frozen strawberries⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
40g fresh or frozen blueberries⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
20g goji berries (find them dried in the healthy food aisle in the supermarket or your local health food store 😉)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1 tsp chia seeds⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1 tsp maca powder⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
30g of spinach⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Blitz all of the ingredients together - if the frozen fruit doesn't make it thick enough for you or you want to up your water intake, simply add a few ice cubes and blitz again.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
