Introducing Joanne who is new to our Board this year:

"I joined the Board of Trustees earlier this year having been an associate member of the Centre for almost 5 years.

I run a relaxed monthly neurological support group at the Centre every second Friday of the month which provides support to sufferers and their carers.

My husband has primary progressive MS and frontal lobe Epilepsy and is now unfortunately in specialist nursing care.

My background is in training, development and business leadership so I’m hoping to share that wealth of experience with the Board and support the Centre in a meaningful and progressive way."

Meet Rich, one of our Trustees during Trustees' Week:
"Being a trustee has helped me to contribute to causes that have affected my family and it enables me to assist in developing a strategic policy for the good of the charity, I experience a personal satisfaction from helping steer a charity and the positive impact it has on its members.

The Centre is so welcoming and friendly and it is a comforting environment, the staff and members make it a lovely place to visit.

I have experience from a construction background, and working for a large corporate manufacturer, I bring a strategic approach to business development and can draw on many years of corporate relationships.

I really enjoy family walks with our dog Bobby who also likes to visit the Centre with my Mum while my Father is having therapies, I also enjoy travelling and golf and I’m keen on cooking and watching all those cooking shows."

Introducing Ali, one of our trustees: "I enjoy being a trustee because I want to give something back to the Centre that has provided so much support to my family over the years. The warm, welcoming, and supportive atmosphere of the Centre is an important part of its success - it is the thing I love most about it.

I have a background in finance and data analysis, so am able to bring to the board my experience. I am particularly interested in making the most of the data we hold to help tell the story of the Centre, and highlight our strengths and weaknesses.

Outside my work with the Centre I volunteer with the Kent Wildlife Trust, and am the Treasurer and keen tuba player in the UK Paper Band Sittingbourne."

Ali and the UK Paper Band will be performing at our Christmas Market on Saturday 22 November!

Our Balance Warrior classes are so popular on Mondays, we're running a new weekly session on Thursdays from 11.30am led by Katie and Chris. This class would suit members with a neurological condition where balance and fitness are a focus. It will help you to maintain mobility and reduce risk of falls.

If you are mobile and able to stand with some support and walk short distances within the Centre, this group is for you. The class is £8 per session.

Contact Reception on 01227 470876 to book.

Happy Halloween everyone! 👻🎃

Today is World Stroke Day.

To start off, a not-so-fun fact, in the UK, someone is admitted to hospital every four minutes with a stroke!

A number of our members here at Headway UK have survived strokes and receive support from us.

Because no two brains, and therefore no two strokes, are the same, that support takes a wide range of shapes.

Some survivors may be in a wheelchair while others may be walking. Some may have memory issues, while some may never stop telling stories from their past.
What they all share is a moment of crisis, and all needed someone to act when they needed help.

So, we are joining in with the World Stroke Organisation to remind you to act FAST.
The sooner you act, the more likely a positive outcome.

One year ago today - on World Stroke Day - Annabel’s life changed in an instant.

After a routine gym session at home, she suddenly lost her vision and was struck by a severe headache that “felt like a rod in her head.”

Doctors later discovered she had dissected her carotid artery and developed a blood clot. Days later, at 3 am, Annabel woke up feeling strange and detached “like I was in another world.” She had suffered a stroke.

Recovery was slow and lonely at first. She researched oxygen therapy and found our Centre.

Unable to drive at the time, Annabel called us and spoke with Carl, our Senior Oxygen Operator, who made her feel instantly at ease.

Now, Annabel attends the Centre three to four times a week for oxygen therapy, and has embraced other therapies in the few months she has been with us including acupuncture, massage and has had her initial physiotherapy assessment.

“The Centre is such a safe and calm space. Everyone is so kind and welcoming and with a plethora of information helpful to my recovery. I’ve seen real improvement since coming here - everything is under one special butterfly roof.”

Her neurologist recently told her that her artery has recanalised, restoring blood flow - something he hadn’t seen happen in over 40 years.

Today, Annabel feels stronger, calmer and deeply grateful - not just for her recovery, but for the supportive community she found here.

On World Stroke Day, we celebrate Annabel’s courage and all those on their own journey to healing. We are here for you if you are recovering from a stroke. Contact Reception on 01227 470876 to learn more.

"Having recently lost my best friend, Marie, suddenly and unexpectedly and having looked back at the many charity events she took part in during her lifetime, I wanted to do something in her memory. However, due to having ME/CFS I certainly wouldn't be able to walk from London to Brighton as she did many times, nor a marathon, half marathon or even a 5k for me. Instead I will be walking only a few metres, but over hot coals!

Both my mother and I have made use of the facilities at the Kent MS Therapy Centre so when I saw this fundraising opportunity that they are organising I thought it was a perfect way to honour Marie's memory and help raise funds to help others suffering from neurological conditions."

Anne-Marie is taking on our Firewalk challenge next Friday! 🔥If you would like to support her fundraising efforts in memory of Marie, you can do so here: https://kentmstc.enthuse.com/pf/annie
