Following the success of last week’s MenACWY vaccine catch-up clinics, further sessions are being offered this Saturday (March 28).

Anyone from the ages of 13-14 (Year 9 of secondary school) up to the age of 25 can walk into one of our clinics to receive the vaccine without having to book an appointment.

They are being held in the following locations:
• Barry Hospital, Colcot Road, CF62 8YH (Sat, March 28: 9am-4.30pm)
• Maelfa Wellbeing Hub, Llanedeyrn, Cardiff, CF23 9PN (Sat, March 28: 9am-4.30pm)

The MenACWY vaccine is offered to young people aged 13-14 as part of their routine schedule to protect against meningococcal disease. These catch-up sessions are for those who didn’t get the vaccine the first time around.

While rare, meningococcal disease can be very serious and require urgent hospital treatment. It can lead to life-changing disabilities such as amputations, hearing loss, brain damage and scars.

If parents of younger children would like information about their meningitis B and pneumococcal vaccination status - both of which are given to children as part of their routine vaccination schedule up to the age of 2 - please call the vaccination service on 02921 841234 (lines open Mon-Fri 9am-4.45pm). You can also book any missed doses with your GP.

MENINGITIS UPDATE

MENINGITIS ACWY

Catch-up clinics are being held for teenagers and young adults who have not had an important meningitis vaccination.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is holding walk-in clinics for young people in Year 9 and up to the age of 25 who have previously missed their MenACWY vaccination appointment.

Walk-in clinics are being held every Saturday (starting March 21) until further notice at the following locations:

Barry Hospital, Colcot Road, CF62 8YH (9am-4.30pm)
Maelfa Wellbeing Hub, Llanedeyrn, Cardiff, CF23 9PN (9am-4.30pm)

Young people aged 13-14 (school Year 9) are invited by GPs in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan to receive this vaccine as part of their routine schedule but sometimes these appointments can get missed.

The MenACWY vaccine protects against meningococcal disease type A, C, W and Y.

While rare, meningococcal disease can be very serious and require urgent hospital treatment. It can lead to life-changing disabilities such as amputations, hearing loss, brain damage and scars.

MENINGITIS

Good morning all, Understandably we have had a lot of queries about the Meningitis outbreak in Kent and in particular patients requesting to have the Meningitis B Vaccination. In Wales the Men B vaccine is routinely offered to babies at 8 weeks of age, 12 weeks of age and 12-13 months of age. At this moment in time there is no vaccination process for children or adults outside of these age groups. Men B for children over the of 2 years and/or adults can be sourced privately, unless the person is in an at risk group and we would then be guided by the patient’s consultant. More information can be found on the attached public health wales website. Thank you
