WHY? โ OUR VOLUNTEERSโ STORIES ๐๏ธโค๏ธ
Every volunteer has a reason. This is one of ours.
Iโve been a Blood Bike rider for eight years to help others, riding as a way of saying thank you for the care I received many years ago after an accident at home that resulted in a broken back. Thanks to the incredible care I received, I went on to live a normal life ๐
While waiting outside a hospital for a scheduled collection, I was approached by a doctor who was asking about Blood Bikes. Looking at him, I had a feeling I knew him. I asked his name โ and it turned out he was my consultant spine surgeon.
When I told him โit was you who sorted meโ, he looked me up and down and said:
โI did a good job then, didnโt I โ and youโre doing a good job for us.โ
I think that says it all.
Then last year, life came full circle. I spent eight nights in ITU suffering with pneumonia. Once again, I found myself relying on the NHS โ and without them, Iโm not sure I would have survived.
Thatโs why I ride ๐๐๏ธ
Could this be your why? If youโd like to support the NHS and make a real difference, Blood Bikes Wales would love to hear from you. ๐๐๐๏ธ
