I'm a single parent, are you?

The last one in our series reflects on what it is to be in a blended family or be a step-parent.

BLENDED FAMILY refers to two, or more, family units coming together to form a new family. Members of the family may be part of several family units and the relationship ties can be more complicated than the “nuclear” family.

STEP PARENTING It's important to consider that some households contain parents who are together and parenting a child together while at the same time one or both parent might feel they are a single parent to an older child from a previous relationship. This contact with the older child might be permanent, occasional or limited. The subtle differences in roles for parents and young people in these times should be considered. Siblings become half siblings, step siblings, step mums and step dads all trying to negotiate the subtle differences in responsibilities, priorities and practical running of the household in these times.

📣 We'd love to hear from our community about the pros and cons of being in a BLENDED FAMILY
📣What do you wish others knew about blended families and being a step-parent?
📣What advice would you give yourself a year ago?

I'm a single parent, are you?

Next up in our series is Solo or lone parenting.

Last week we looked at parallel parenting. This week we shine the spotlight on:
SOLO PARENTING - Here the child/ren have access to one parent.
There are also differences in solo parenting as some may have a lot of support from family, others have no support, and some get financial support.
There are many reasons why a parent would consider themselves a solo parent some are below:
Bereavement
Adoption
Domestic abuse
IVF
Single parent by choice
Denial of parental responsibility
Parent living abroad
Contact ordered not to see child/ren due to safety concerns
Child sees other parent a few times a year

📣 We'd love to hear from our community about the pros and cons of being a SOLO PARENT.
📣What do you wish others knew about solo or lone parenting?
📣What advice would you give yourself a year ago?

VOLUNTEER WITH US!

Single Parents Wellbeing wouldn’t be where it is today without volunteers.
A huge amount of time has been donated at every level of SPW to help it grow.
As we are busier than ever, we thought it would be a good time to have groups of volunteers coming together with a common aim, to really help SPW achieve its goals and to give volunteers even more accountability in their roles within SPW.

Are you a 'front of house' people person?
We are always looking for new volunteers to join us to host get togethers, workshops and socials. From all age groups, family events and adult socials, whether you can volunteer once next year or commit to a few times a year we'd love to hear from you!

If you'd like to get involved then please do get in touch with sarah@singleparentswellbeing.com

I'm a single parent, are you?

Next up in our series is Parallel Parenting, is this a term you have come across?

Last week we looked at high conflict, co-parents. This week we shine the spotlight on:
PARALLEL PARENTING - this is similar to high conflict coparenting but where one or both parents are not communicating parenting strategies. This is the most common . The child/ren is often used as a messenger and can lead to the child/ren playing one parent off against the other. Here, again, there can be signs of Domestic Abuse.

📣 We'd love to hear from our community about the pros and cons of being in a PARALLEL PARENTING set up.
📣What do you wish others knew about parallel parenting?
📣What advice would you give yourself a year ago?
