April is Autism Acceptance Month 💙

Autism is a spectrum - not a straight line.

It includes people with different strengths, challenges, communication styles and support needs.
Accepting and understanding this helps create kinder, more accessible spaces and experiences for everyone.

Awareness is important - but acceptance makes a real difference.

We are delighted to share that this week, we entered our transition period from our existing Laboratory Information System to our new Genetic Laboratory Information System - GLIMS with the system finally going LIVE yesterday.

This is a major milestone for AWMGS that will bring a modern, sustainable and fully interoperable platform to our service. This upgrade will significantly enhance how we work across the organisation and, most importantly, improve the quality, safety and efficiency of care we deliver for our patients.

The scale of this development and implementation has been immense. Our Project Team, together with our Laboratory Teams and colleagues across the service, have shown exceptional dedication, expertise and collaboration throughout. Their commitment has been instrumental in bringing this complex programme to life.

The build‑up to launch has been both highly anticipated and incredibly exciting, and we are proud to be moving into this next chapter with such strong momentum and support.
With thanks to SCC Soft Computer for their determination and support in developing this software to meet the complex needs of our service and continuing to support us on-site through the transition period.

💙💛 On World Down Syndrome Day, we stand with individuals with Down syndrome and the families, carers and communities who support them.
This year’s theme reminds us of the importance of inclusion — ensuring that every person with Down syndrome has equal opportunities to thrive, participate, and be fully valued in their communities.
We’re grateful to work closely with families and healthcare teams across Wales to provide information, support and care every day.

A proud and exciting moment for all of us here at AWMGS as the roll out of QuicDNA Max was launched on Tuesday!

Following the success of the QuicDNA partnership study and its potential to transform diagnosis and treatment pathways, the partnership has now officially launched QuicDNAMax.

This next phase will accelerate the use of cutting-edge liquid biopsy technology, upscaling the study to include the ctDNA testing of other cancer types as well as the rollout of QuicDNA Max across all Welsh Health Boards, supporting faster and more personalised treatment decisions for more cancer pathway patients across Wales.

Taking place during British Science Week, the launch is a pioneering moment for Welsh Genomics, and is testament to the ingenuity, innovation and passion for improving patient outcomes, that our scientists and partners bring to the genomic landscape.

St David’s Day Celebrations have been in full swing this week! As an ‘All Wales’ service, we are extremely proud to serve patients from across the whole of Wales, so this year, we celebrated by inviting patients and staff to get involved in our first ever ‘Eisteddfod’ event.

Patients attending our clinic and staff were invited to participate in a number of competitions and it was great to see everyone getting involved and immersing themselves in Welsh culture and traditions.
We are excited to see your St David’s Day celebrations too!

Tag us in your celebration photos or your own Welsh themed arts/crafts creations and yours could be featured on display in the Welsh Genomic Health Centre.

This event was organised by AWMGS Wellbeing and Social Hub and the Welsh Ambassadors Group, with special thanks to Cardiff and Vale Health Charity for funding and AWMGS Senior Leadership Team for their endorsement and support.
