Meningitis can be very serious if not treated quickly.

The NHS website has all the information you need, including what to look out for and when to get medical help.

Following the recent news of the MENINGITIS outbreak in Kent, we’ve had many questions about who is eligible for a jab on the NHS.

Here is a clear breakdown of the current NHS England criteria for 2026.

🎓 For Young Adults & Students (Under 25):

The primary vaccine for this age group is MenACWY.
- Routine: Offered to all students in School Year 9 or 10.
- Catch-up: If you missed it at school, you are eligible for a free dose at the GP until your 25th birthday.
- Why? This is vital for students starting university, as it protects against four deadly strains.

👶 For Infants & Children (The 2026 Schedule):

The NHS schedule for meningitis vaccines has recently been updated.
- MenB Vaccine: Now given at 8 weeks, 12 weeks, and a booster at 1 year.
- Note: Most people over the age of 10 today will not have had this on the NHS, as it only became routine in 2015.
- 6-in-1 Vaccine: Now includes a booster at 18 months (for children born after July 2024) to protect against Hib-related meningitis.
- Pneumococcal (PCV): Given at 16 weeks and 1 year.

🩺 Higher Risk Groups:

You may be eligible for extra meningitis vaccinations regardless of age if you have certain health conditions, such as:
- A missing or non-functional spleen.
- Severe immune system issues
- Certain treatments that weaken your immune system.

📍 What should I do?

1) Check your history: Log into the NHS App to see exactly which meningitis vaccines you have already received

2) Request a catch-up: If you are under 25 and have not had the MenACWY jab, message us

3) Private MenB Jabs: Currently, the NHS does not offer a MenB catch-up for those born before 2015 (unless you are in a high-risk medical group). Some pharmacies offer this privately, though stocks are currently limited due to high demand.

Thank you to everyone who takes the time to provide feedback to the practice on Google and the Friends and Family test; it reassures us that we’re moving in the right direction and helps us continue improving the care we provide.

We have over 95% of patients rating us either good or very good. Some of the written feedback this month:

I was happy the care I received yesterday the doctor I saw seemed really caring towards me. One of the best doctors I've seen

Tracey was amazing with my little boy having his preschool immunisations she was so understanding, explained everything to him and us and was so lovely! We were so worried and anxious on how it was going to be for him but she made it so much easier we are so greatful! The receptionist was so wonderful and praised my son once he had them to as we were leaving and he was so happy and proud of himself thank you so much

Doctor was so helpful felt nice and relaxed.

Dr Hutchinson was lovely, she listened well and helped me.

The nurse was really friendly, easy to talk to, amazing nurse would see her again

Heather was amazing she put me completely at ease and showed compassion

Quick wait times.. always friendly nurses. They are really welcoming. Had to use reception as well very helpful

I have recently joined the practice as a patient and i have had a lot of appointments which the practice is following up on the results they get back great service

Because over the last 6 weeks I’ve a several occasions where I attended Eden court and received the best clear care and advice all 3 doctors I saw where amazing

I was running late and telephoned as I was stuck in traffic the doctor was still kind enough to see me understood my health issues and gave me medication and put an X-ray request to good hope

Appointment was given as requested. Dr Meyyappan was amazing, really thorough, took time to explain what was happening. Also gave me a plan for a follow up appointment. I left the surgery feeling very happy.

Tom was very helpful and explained things in layman's terms

The Dr I saw was very professional and polite. They made sure to cover any concerns I had. They left the treatment option up to me. The reception staff were also very polite and friendly

Your latest Netflix binge lasted 8 hours. This appointment takes about 10 minutes. It’s not the most glamorous "self-care" date on your calendar, but it’s definitely the most important.
