Do you need to get First Aid trained in 2025?

My last open EFAW course for 2025 will be running this Friday 21st November, at the beautiful Ham Manor Golf Club in Angmering.

The EFAW is a regulated one day First Aid qualification. It is perfect for businesses who require qualified First Aiders to comply with regulations/insurance needs.

First Aiders at work need to renew their certificate every 3 years to stay qualified and this course will do that also.

This course is also perfect for individuals who simply want to learn how to save a life in an emergency - whether that be at work or not!

The skills you will learn are those that can potentially save someone’s life .. to find out more, please email lucy@firstaidsavvy.co.uk

Last weeks news:

Attended another wonderfully full and inspiring day of learning and networking with fellow First Aid Trainer colleagues in Sussex called the First Aid Facilitators Forum (AKA the FAFF!).

High on the list was a session on Catastrophic Bleeding which is becoming more relevant in todays EFAW and FAW training. Guidelines now require some awareness or training to be included in regulated First Aid courses so it was great to go deeper on the topic.

Sepsis was the next topic - not included in First Aid training but such an important talk that went into the whys and hows of the body's inflammatory response.

We also covered differences with child and baby First Aid and finally, a very emotional presentation by Martin Cosser, father of Charlie Cosser who very sadly lost his life to knife crime 2 years ago. Charlies Promise is a charity dedicated to breaking the cycle of knife crime and creating a safer UK. Such an important message to deliver and it was a very emotional finish to the day.

So glad to be part of this amazing FAFF community and happy to increase my knowledge to support my teaching moving forwards.

Next FAFF day will be in March ...

Your chance to LEARN CPR and how to apply an AED in a short 2.5 hour course this SATURDAY 27TH SEPT in Worthing:

Following a rather upsetting event in my street whereby a neighbour had to attempt CPR under the verbal instructions of the Emergency Call Handler, it got me thinking ... How distressing it must be to try and understand verbal instructions for CPR, in the most stressful of events, having never had any previous hands-on experience before ...

Whilst both did the very best job they possibly could under the circumstances, it made me wonder if I could help ...

My solution is to have developed a very short, but very hands on, 2.5 hour course that will give you instruction to know what to do in a cardiac arrest medical emergency and to 'feel' what it's like to do CPR and how to use a Defib. I'll be focusing on the important finer details such as hand placement, speed and depth of compressions and where to place the defib pads.

The first 2 of these CPR/AED workshops are running tomorrow (Saturday 27th Sept 2025) and this could by YOUR chance to get some experience in CPR and putting a Defib on someone ... I hope you will never have to use those skills but wouldn't it be amazing if you had them, should you need them?

It's open to anyone 14+, why not do this as a family and get everyone up to 'spec'?

Just bought my ticket to attend the First Aid Facilitators Forum event again ... lovingly referred to as FAFF :-)

It's anything but a FAFF to attend - it's a brilliant day where I get the chance to network with fellow Sussex-and-beyond First Aid training professionals and discuss issues that affect us in our working world and get plenty of CPD hours logged too.

This time it's aptly being held on the World 'Restart a Heart' day - 16th October.

The day will include several sessions from expert speakers such as:
🤝 Open networking & introductions
🙏 A spotlight on Charlie's Promise
🩸 bleeding – low frequency/high pressure (Marc Harrold)
🧒 First Aid – differences with children and babies (Claire Street)
😷 First Aid (Kas Fletcher)
📡 change in First Aid

To say I'm excited to see this lovely bunch again is an understatement - I am so lucky to have such a supportive network and I will be putting all that I learn into practice to make my classes even better for you!!

It's a busy fortnight ahead at First Aid Savvy HQ, with non-first Aid stuff (scaffolding and family visits) but also, hoping to book more candidates onto a couple of open courses that are due ... here's a quick rundown.

Thursday 18 September 2025
Attending The Better Business Show on the BNI stand.
Worthing Leisure Centre - free entry.
Come and chat about all things business, networking and First Aid and see if BNI might be a good fit for you and your business.

Monday 22 September 2025 - Emergency First Aid at Work
Ham Manor Golf Club, Angmering.
This is the real deal for First Aid training in the workplace ... the EFAW is a regulated and HSE approved qualification so you can gain genuine 'qualified First Aider' status, essential to meet your First Aid regulations compliance. Cost £105 (certification included) - spaces available.
________________________________________________________________

Saturday 27th September 2025 - CPR & AED short workshops
Merriman Grange Care Home, Worthing
Short 2-2.5 hour workshops to get hands on experience of the correct way to do CPR and how to attach and use a Defib. UK survival rate for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OOHCA) is lower than 10% and that's partly down to the lack of experience when it comes to what to actually do in such an emergency. Over 70% of OOHCA's happen in the home ... there's no feeling better than feeling prepared, so come along to a morning or afternoon session and unleash your inner life-saver with confidence!! £25 - spaces on both sessions available.

The Better Business Show is nearly here!

On Thursday 18th September I’ll be at the Worthing Leisure Centre with my Worthing BNI colleagues, showcasing our group and inviting new businesses to see what we’re all about.

BNI has helped me grow First Aid Savvy through trusted referrals and long-lasting relationships. It’s also a lot of fun – many of our members have stayed for years because it works so well for them. For me, my BNI meeting is also a weekly input of good energy - if you're a sole trader, you'll know that motivation can fluctuate!

Come and meet me and my fellow BNI peeps at the stand and find out more ... and don't forget to enter our prize draw too!
