I’m Portia, a certified and trauma-informed breathwork facilitator dedicated to guiding you on a journey to nervous system regulation and emotional healing. My passion lies in empowering individuals to regain control over their reactions, responses, and emotions, allowing them to reconnect with their authentic selves and break free from the suffocating grip of daily overwhelm. I work with people who feel disorientated and overwhelmed by the mundanity of adult life and sense unease around this version of themself and the life they are living. The research is clear across physical, neurological, and emotional systems, that working with the breath is fundamental for healing and presence. We can regulate our nervous system via the vagus nerve – the longest nerve in the body – it connects your brain to many organs including the gut, heart, and lungs – it also influences your breathing, digestive functioning, and heart rate – all of them are closely related to your wellbeing and mental health – breathing in a way that stimulates your vagus nerve also activates the restore and repair function. Your breath will bring you home again, and again. I am: Qualified / Accredited / Insured

Confidence doesn’t always look like standing tall or speaking up. Sometimes it’s unclenching your jaw, dropping your shoulders and taking a steady breath when everything in you wants to shrink.

And that’s what we’ve been exploring inside The Breathing Room this week - how breath and posture shape how you feel and how small shifts can make you feel more grounded and sure of yourself.

We all have different thresholds for stress, and it’s funny how quickly we start comparing them isn’t it?
Someone else’s chaos might look bigger or more dramatic and we catch ourselves thinking, “Well, mine’s nothing compared to that.”

But I’ll continue to say it… the biggest thing going on in your life, is the biggest thing going on in your life. 🫶🏻
It deserves space, attention and care, not minimising or “powering through.”

That’s what this week’s Breathing Room practice is for.

Earlier this month I spent the day with the brilliant Women in Numatic group. 38 people across four sessions, each taking 30 minutes to pause, breathe and reset.

These sessions remind me how powerful the simplest practices can be - there’s no equipment, no big production, just the breath we already have.

Breathe, Rest, Reset - this Friday 24th Oct at Horton Village Hall (7–8pm)

If you’ve been running on empty lately, this hour is for you.

We’ll use gentle, guided breathwork to calm the body, quiet the mind and help you actually exhale.
No experience needed, you can sit or lie down, get comfy with cushions or blankets, and I’ll guide you through easy breathing techniques to help you unwind and feel more like yourself again.

Think of it like the best bit of a yoga class, that peaceful bit at the end! But the whole session is designed that way.

Today I spent the day at Numatic International running breathwork sessions all around the theme of ‘Managing Busy Minds and the Mental Load.’

We didn’t need mats, music or a fancy studio space - just awareness, breath and a willingness to pause.

We talked about how the breath mirrors how we’re living, how stress can creep into every inhale and how simple techniques can bring us back to calm, clarity and presence.

For so many of us juggling everything (work, home, family, ageing parents, hormones, responsibilities) taking time to breathe can feel like a luxury.
But it’s actually maintenance!

And watching rooms full of women realise how powerful it feels to slow down, sigh and breathe well? That was pure joy!

What a week!
• Classes with my brilliant community

• Shared a little Personal Performance Coaching with my newsletter crew
• Prepped for a day of corporate breath workshops coming up this week
• Delivered something new for my paid Substack subscribers (and loved it, so more of that coming soon!)
• Supported 3 businesses with my other hat on: marketing, PA & business support

…and thew an ill child in to the mix - a bit of a juggle 🙃

So, not exactly the plan, but still a week full of good work, small wins and plenty of perspective.

Here’s to breathing through the chaos and carrying the good bits into next week 💛
