A friend shared this with me and I think it’s so important to raise awareness. How much about postpartum psychosis is educated during the antenatal period? We talk about the “baby blues” and it’s no secret I suffered postnatal depression with my second that’s more widely spoken about, but how much do we actually talk about when things go further? Do our birth partners or those who are supporting us in the postnatal period know what to look for? I’ve cared for many women with PP in my career and it’s truly a terrifying experience for them
Jade shares her story below with • "Looking back, I think for us, not having any idea what was happening was the most frightening thing."

A big thank you to Jade for sharing her experience 💜

Its official - Autumn is here - although we have been basking in the most glorious sunshine this week, according to the meteorological calendar Autumn has arrived.

Time to get out your snuggle blankets, dust off your pumpkin carving tools and watch as those days get a little shorter over the next few weeks.

The Autumn Equinox was earlier in the week meaning that the day had 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of darkness - we love facts like that! Another one - every year since 1997 Autumn has made an appearance in the top 100 girls names!

Enjoy those Autumn walks, kicking through the leaves and return home for hot chocolates and gorgeous hearty winter food. Look out next Saturday - we are going to start a recipe share! From sweet apples and pears to perfectly spiced ginger and tumeric, our drinks are perfect for that little taste of autumn nostalgia

I think there is so much pressure on mums to “get their body back after baby”. Your body never went anywhere. It’s still there. As fabulous and strong as it ever was.

After I had Jack I suffered massively with postnatal depression. Undiagnosed at the time and I was ashamed as a midwife to admit. So it just festered. For years. I lived in the gym in an unhealthy way. The only control I had was my calories. I ate less and less and trained more and more. Eventually I was so tiny I could barely look after the babies that hi had fought so hard to protect.

Then I admitted I needed help. I saw a GP. I started medication. I started counselling, and I started weightlifting.
Suddenly I wanted to feel strong in my body to compliment my growing mental strength.

And over the years I’ve gotten through the dark times and the love for the gym has remained. I still use it for mental well-being over anything else really.

Anyway my waffling point is this. So many worry about how their body is after birth, but what about ur mind? How many of us put the same amount of effort into our mental well-being as we do our physical? It’s about finding the balance and what works for you. The first step is to talk. I’ll hold my hands up and admit I didn’t talk for years. I was a second time mum. I was a midwife. A very very experienced midwife at that. Yet here I was sat on my kitchen floor crying with a baby screaming in the bassinet in the utility room with the door closed. A poorly baby but still a baby. I was lucky I had so much support when I finally let it in.

There’s so much help there. Anyone struggling can always DM me and I’ll find support in your area for you. Talk to your family, friends, GP, Heath visitor. Anyone. Don’t feel alone. And stay strong Mummas 💪🏻💪🏻😘😘

So many people have messaged asking about this course so thought I’d post. organise live zoom calls from India to teach you authentic home cooked Indian food; traditionally done. You can either choose from one of their scheduled sessions or ask them to teach your favourite dish for you. Tonight we did Palak Paneer, Daal, Roti and a salad and oh my goodness you can’t get this taste in the UK. Classes are £20 per household, less than you’d pay for your Saturday night takeaway and I can honestly say have given me something to look forward to all week. Perfect for a change in a lockdown weekend. Head over and check them out 💖
