It was a lovely flashback seeing one of the Chelsea Pensioners on Strictly Come Dancing last night. I spent 3 very rewarding years helping restore Christopher Wren’s Royal Hospital Chelsea, Home of the Chelsea Pensioners. I was part of the Team that oversaw the adjusting of the original layout, which hadn’t been changed in over 300 years. En suite bathrooms were sensitively added, without damaging the beautiful Christopher Wren panelling, to allow female pensioners to be welcomed further first time.

Watching the changes take place on site and speaking to The Chelsea Pensioners, was an absolute joy.

Today I am remembering what they, and so many others, sacrificed to give us the freedoms we enjoy today.

Just seeing it marked out in spray chalk on a cleared area makes it so much more real, even after drawing every detail. It is just such a joy love seeing an architectural project taking shape ❤️

We have taken up the terrace ready for the builders to start digging the foundations. We were able to salvage the original bricks by doing this and save a large amount of money as well. It is always worth trying your do this yourself for both reasons.
