The Overthinker Gremlin is relentless.

It replays conversations, analyses every possibility, and creates whole scenarios in your mind before anything has happened.

It says things like:
“What if they misunderstood me?”
“What if I choose the wrong option?”
“What if I make a mistake I can’t fix?”

It convinces you that thinking more will lead to clarity — but all it leads to is mental exhaustion.
Because overthinking isn’t solving.
It’s the mind trying to feel safe by scanning for danger that isn’t actually there.

When you step back from the noise for a moment, something shifts.
Your breathing slows.
Your thoughts soften.

I heard a metaphor years ago that I never forgot.

Imagine you’re outside at night holding a torch.
Wherever you point the light, that’s what you see clearly.
Everything else fades into the background.

But when you feel overwhelmed, it’s as though the torch keeps swinging around on its own —
jumping from one worry to another,
one task to another,
one “should” to another.

Nothing stays in focus long enough to feel doable.

And yet, the problem isn’t the torch.
It’s the movement.

If you pause… even briefly…
the light stops shaking.
The ground in front of you becomes clear again.
You can see where to place your foot.

The same is true for your mind.

Overwhelm often comes from jumping between too many things at once —
not because you’re weak or unfocused,
but because your system is moving faster than it can comfortably handle.

When you notice the scatter and say,
“Hold on… this is where I intended to focus,”
the torch steadies.
Clarity returns.
And the next step suddenly feels manageable again.

It’s not the pressure.
It’s the pace.
And where your attention wanders when everything feels like “too much”.
