Mini really enjoyed her H-Wave treatment last week 🥰

H‑Wave creates low‑frequency, non‑fatiguing contractions. These gentle movements help muscles release tension without causing soreness.
The waveform increases blood circulation in the treated area - this brings oxygen and nutrients, while improving lymphatic drainage which helps to remove inflammation‑related waste products.

H‑Wave can also help decrease pain signaling and lower overall discomfort in tight or spasmed muscles, allowing the horse to move more freely.

Mini has the best facial expressions and likes to chat away during treatment which is SO sweet 🥰

If you have any questions about how physio can help your horse get into the best shape, please get in touch!

What to do on a wet, horrible evening? Canine conditioning with my favourite boy of course 🤩💪

Here are just a few of our favourite exercises! It’s best to check with a physiotherapist which exercises are suitable for your dog, to ensure everyone remains safe. Exercises can start really simple and build to movements which are much more challenging for the targetted muscle group.

If you’d like to chat about conditioning, rehab or exercises please get in touch, I’d love to help!

Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) occurs when degeneration of the intervertebral disc leads to protrusion or extrusion of disc material, causing compression of the spinal cord. This disrupts neural signalling, resulting in pain, altered proprioception, weakness, or paralysis.

Post-operative IVDD:
Following surgical decompression, veterinary physiotherapy aims to protect the healing spine while restoring mobility, preventing muscle atrophy, and supporting neurological recovery. Rehabilitation is carefully progressed to retrain gait, balance, and functional movement in line with tissue healing timelines.

Conservative IVDD management:
In non-surgical cases, physiotherapy focuses on pain management, spinal stability, maintenance of muscle mass and joint range of motion, and controlled neuromuscular re-education—reducing the risk of further disc injury while promoting safe recovery.
Individualised veterinary physiotherapy is essential in optimising outcomes for both surgical and conservatively managed IVDD cases, supporting long-term function and quality of life.

Yesterday was a day FULL of whippets, I treated 4 and had cuddles with 10, including a couple of pups!! Although they can be very dramatic (Tolley didn’t want to get his feet wet, so gait assessment was a little odd!!), they have the sweetest natures 🥰

Happy Friday everyone 🥳💪🥰🐾

Thank you Alison for a lovely review. It’s amazing to see how quickly Stella recovered! 🤩🐾

Some VERY cute pictures of Zac enjoying his 14th birthday 🥳🤩🥰
Zac first came to me for some physiotherapy after a vestibular episode, leaving him unsteady on his feet and weak. I have now been seeing Zac for a few months and the difference is amazing - he’s happy, tail wagging and back to walking with his mum and dad 💪🐾

Happy birthday Zac🥳

🐾 Patella Luxation 🐾

The patella (kneecap) is a small bone embedded within the quadriceps tendon. Its role is to improve the efficiency of the quadriceps muscle by acting as a pulley, helping the knee extend smoothly during walking, running, and jumping.

In a healthy knee, the patella glides up and down within the trochlear groove of the femur. In dogs with patella luxation, this groove may be too shallow, or the forces acting on the patella may be unbalanced—allowing the kneecap to slip medially or laterally.

🦴 Why this matters:
When the patella isn’t tracking correctly, it can alter limb alignment, increase joint stress, and contribute to pain, cartilage wear, and muscle weakness over time.

💡 Role of physiotherapy:
Veterinary physiotherapy focuses on optimising muscle balance, improving limb mechanics, and supporting joint stability—key components in managing patella luxation and protecting long-term knee health.

Early intervention helps support normal movement patterns and reduces secondary complications.
