A drop in session to allow residents to ask questions and find out more on the potential closures of Gateshead leisure centres will take place on 2nd March 5.30pm – 7.30pm at the former Birtley Children's Centre (DH3 2HG)

🕠You can arrive anytime between 5.30 and 7.30pm

💻This is an informal session, no presentations or talks will take place on the evening

🚶‍♀🚶We are anticipating the evening to be well attended so you may experience a short wait to enter the room, please be patient as we want to give everyone a fair opportunity to ask any questions which they may have

The consultation for Gateshead Leisure has reopened.
Please can EVERYONE complete it in support of Birtley swimming centre, even if you have completed it for other centres already.
If everyone could like, share and invite to the page that would be amazing!

The public consultation on the future of Gateshead Councils Leisure Services has now re-opened and will close on Monday 8 May.

if you have not already told us how the potential closures of leisure centres will impact on you, please let us know by completing the online consultation form.

At this morning's cabinet meeting, an amendment to the proposal was agreed, extending the consultation process by 3 months.
This will allow the residents of Birtley the same opportunity to be fully consulted, organise further objections to the closure and, most importantly, allow us the time to get the building blocks in place to secure an asset transfer for the swimming centre - securing it's long term future.
A petition will be available shortly and once the consultation reopens as much engagement as possible is required. (Links will be posted and where physical copies of the petition are available will be shared)
Saving the swimming centre needs to remain the sole focus, we need as much support as possible!

Sorry to have to state this again, but this page is to focus on saving the swimming centre. Not to air grievances and make unsubstantiated claims. Further posts of this nature will be removed.

We understand this is an empotive subject for many local residents, but this is a page to help save the centre, not insult and argue.
We appreciate that, rightly, there will be some criticisms of the process and consultation so far, but we need as much support from all elements of the community and it's leaders to achieve a positive outcome.
