Here are some simple tips for parents to use on a daily basis to support their children's mental health as part of 🌟

💬Encourage open conversations
Make time to chat about feelings by asking simple questions like “How was your day?” or “What’s been on your mind?” so children know they can talk to you.

🌳Prioritise outdoor play
Getting outside to play, walk, or just have some fresh air helps children burn off energy, reset, and feel calmer.

🌙Create predictable routines
Regular routines around meals, homework, and bedtime can help children feel settled and more secure in their day.

🥪Encourage a healthy diet
Eating regular, balanced meals and snacks such as fruit, vegetables, wholegrains, and protein helps keep energy levels steady and supports mood and focus.

📱Limit screen time
Having gentle boundaries around screens can improve sleep, encourage movement, and leave more space for connection.

🎉Celebrate small wins
Noticing the little things like effort, kindness, or getting through a tough moment helps children feel confident and supported.

We're proud to have supported 38 children and young people with 1-2-1 counselling through the Thriving Families project in partnership with Koala North West, Home-Start UK and Her-Place Charitable Trust funded by Cheshire Community Foundation.

This project involves all 4 organisations coming together to support families in a number of ways, our support involves supporting children with 1-2-1 counselling and delivering workshops to parents.

The project is going well, and we look forward to supporting more families throughout the duration of the project!

*Strength & Balance Classes Update*

Healthbox CIC has been delivering Strength & Balance classes for over 15 years, supporting people to stay strong, steady, and independent.

Unfortunately, we’re not currently able to secure funding to start new or continue our classes at this time. We understand this may be disappointing, particularly as there is a high demand for falls prevention support in the community.

We want to reassure you that we are continuing to work hard to seek further funding so we can restart and expand this service in the future.

In the meantime, there are a number of independent Strength & Balance classes available locally, which you may wish to explore: https://www.healthboxcic.com/falls-prevention-classes-cheshire

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Healthbox falls prevention classes are on hold due to funding. In the meantime, please see below list of falls prevention classes that we recommend in the Cheshire area. These classes are designed to support your strength and balance.

What a week 🇬🇲✨

Hollie recently travelled to The Gambia alongside a group from , , .m_cancer_alliance and , staying at

During the trip, the group volunteered and delivered workshops across a range of settings, from nurseries and primary schools to medical centres and spent time with medical students, local professionals and families. They truly immersed themselves in the culture, witnessing first-hand the strength, generosity and deep sense of community that runs through everything.

They visited a women’s garden where hours each day were spent watering crops using just two buckets. Being able to provide watering cans and hoses felt like a small gesture, but one that would make a real, practical difference. They also visited a recycling centre, seeing how plastic waste is creatively reused and repurposed with incredible resourcefulness.

One of the most humbling moments was donating medical supplies to the largest local medical centre - staffed by fewer than 50 people caring for a population of over 52,000. During dry season, coughs and respiratory issues are common, and the centre had no PPE at all. The masks and equipment donated arrived at exactly the right time and were met with overwhelming gratitude.

As Hollie shared, it’s hard to describe just how moving this experience was. Seeing communities with no running water or electricity, yet so much connection, sharing and joy, brought everything sharply into perspective.

This trip has left a lasting impact on everyone involved and this is only the beginning. We have so much more to share from this journey, and over the coming weeks we can’t wait to take you with us, story by story 💛

Our Story

Healthbox CIC was first founded in 2010 by a team of young Public Health professionals working in the Healthcare industry with a great idea to start a social enterprise. By applying for grants and funding from the Big Lottery and local authorities to deliver Health and Wellbeing orientated sessions to the surrounding communities. Of course, funding doesn’t come from thin air so the lengthy process of bid writing was done in a Simon Sandford, our directors living room!

What began as a small scale healthy family initiatives working with Blacon schools, grew into family residentials, NHS and council commissioned services. What has never changed has been our overriding aim to deliver services that are driven by the individuals, families and communities we work with. Seven years on in our lovely Healthbox CIC office, we are now a well known company in the Cheshire West and Chester area, providing Health and Wellbeing programmes to all ages within our community.
