Mrs Betty Taylor of Smithy Brook View, Clay Cross has sadly passed away, aged 98.

Betty lived in Holmewood for over 20 years before finally residing in Clay Cross for the last 10 years.

Before retirement Betty worked at Robinson’s and Trebor. Her interests included knitting, colouring, dominoes and playing cards.

Predeceased by her late husband Noah, Betty leaves behind daughter Linda, grandchildren Jenny, Naomi, Antonia and their partners Jon, Kim and Mathew. Along with great grandchildren Paige, Maizie, Olivia, Summer, Jessica, Noah and Tommy.

The funeral service is due to take place on Friday 27th February, The Chapel, Clay Cross at 12pm followed by burial in St Lawrence Church Yard.

Donations in memory of Betty will be divided between Alzheimer’s Society and Dementia UK.

Mr Alan Dawson of Danesmoor has sadly passed away at Hill House Care Home, Clay Cross aged 69 years.

Born in Chesterfield and a lifelong resident.

Alan worked at as a Countryside Ranger and carer and retired 3 years ago.

He enjoyed walking, bird watching, painting, a keen volunteer at Ashgate Hospice Charity Shop.

The Funeral Service is due to take place on Wednesday 25th February 2026 at Amber Valley Crematorium, Swanick at 3.00pm.

Donations in the memory of Alan will be taken for Ashgate Hospice.

Louie Martin.

The family would like to thank to all family and friends for attending Louie’s funeral service , also thank you to Louie’s neighbours and carers.

A special thank you to the staff at the Meadows Care Home Alfreton, for taking care of mum for over 2 years.

A special thank you to Reverend Alexandrina Mann for a lovely service and putting us at ease on a difficult day.

Thank you to the Old Poets Corner for an afternoon of lovely food of which all enjoyed and commented on.

Thank you to Rob and everyone at Hoults for a professional service without worry for mum’s funeral.

Donations in the memory of Louie raised £100.00 and will be given to Candys Hound Rescue.

Mrs Valerie Elsie Hall of Holmewood has sadly passed away at Ashgate Hospice aged 84 years.

Born in Holmewood and a lifelong resident for 84 years.

Valerie worked at Ladbrokes for 30 years 1971- 2001 until her retirement. She worked as a sale rep for Tupperware 1968 -1973, also worked at Kennings as an office administrator 1956-1963.

Family was the most important thing to her, she also enjoyed travelling, concerts and puzzles.

Valerie leaves her husband David Hall, son Derrick, daughter Lorraine, 3 grandchildren Louise, Ryan and Ellie.

The funeral service is due to take place on Monday 23rd February 2026 at Chesterfield Crematorium at 1.30pm.

Donations in the memory of Valerie will be taken for Ashgate Hospice Ward.

Mr Michael Mallender of Grassmoor has sadly passed away at Chesterfield Royal Hospital aged 84 years.

Born in Grassmoor, Chesterfield and he lived in the village all his life.

Michael worked at Grassmoor Colliery for 14 years until it closed, then he worked at Tubeworks for 13 years, the he worked at the council grass cutting and gardening until his retirement.

He enjoyed spending time in his garden and greenhouse. In his younger days he liked fishing and walking especially when his dog Brandy was alive.

Michael leaves his younger brother John, sister-in-law Margaret, nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

The Funeral Service is due to take place on Tuesday 24th February 2026 at St Paul’s Church, Hasland at 11.00am followed by burial in Hasland Cemetery.

Everyone is welcome to the wake at The Blue Bell, North Wingfield.

Donations in the memory of Michael will be taken for The British Heart Foundation.
