Stress can negatively impact your feet in many ways, including:
• Muscle tension
Stress can cause muscles in your feet to tense up, which can lead to pain, discomfort, or cramping. This tension can also alter your gait and stance, which can increase the risk of injury or cause imbalances.
• Reduced circulation
Stress can constrict blood vessels in your feet, which can reduce blood flow and oxygen and nutrient supply. This can lead to cold, numb, or tingling feet, and can make it harder for wounds to heal.
• Increased risk of injury
Stress can impair your concentration and coordination, which can increase the likelihood of accidents or injuries to your feet.
• Exacerbating existing conditions
Stress can make pre-existing foot conditions like plantar fasciitis, bunions, or arthritis worse.
• Stress fractures
Stress can cause tiny cracks in the bones of your foot or lower leg, which are known as stress fractures. A common symptom of a stress fracture is swelling in the affected area.
• Trigger points
Stress can lead to the development of trigger points, which are localized areas of tightness that can cause referred pain in other parts of the body, including your feet.

October is Menopause Awareness Month

Hormonal changes during menopause can cause a number of foot problems, including:
• Dry skin
A decline in estrogen levels can make it harder to retain moisture, causing the skin on your feet to dry out and crack.
• Hard skin and corns
Weight gain or redistribution of fat pads can put more pressure on your feet, leading to hard skin and corns.
• Plantar fasciitis
A decrease in collagen can cause a loss of flexibility and strength in tissues, which can lead to plantar fasciitis and other heel pain.
• Burning feet
Changes in temperature control can cause burning feet.
• Collapsed arches
A reduction in estrogen can soften the tissues in your arches, which can lead to them weakening or flattening.
• Changes in foot shape and size
Some women may experience a decrease in foot size, while others may notice that their feet become wider or flatter.
