I don’t know about you but I feel I’ve spent the last few days after Christmas recovering from 2021 (and feel I need a good few weeks or months more to recover).

This was most definitely my post of the year- shared and liked over 100,000 times across social media platforms, showing just how much it resonated with people. I think we are all tired after living through increased stress, uncertainty, unpredictability and change for the last two years, with our stress systems on higher alert than usual, and less use of our coping strategies and regular downtime (such as holidays) to regulate this response.

This image and all my drawings from my the pandemic in 2020 and 2021 are now available in the new updated edition of my free ebook ā€˜how to stay calm in a global pandemic’.

Yes there’s a hint of irony to the title, because of course you can’t always stay calm, but this free ebook book is designed to help at those times.

I’ll pop the link to download it into my stories and add it to the story highlights at the top of my page. The book is totally free for non commercial use. However If you find the book helpful and/ or distribute it (and you feel able) please consider giving a small donation to a mental health charity. I shall link to my justgiving page with my choice of charity in my stories if you would like to donate there. Please particularly consider this if you distribute it in your origination or business.Mental health has been impacted on by the pandemic and a wee token of thanks can help people impacted on.

Thanks for all your support, kind wishes, messages in 2021. Now I’m off to bed again!

Had a bit of a penny drop moment this morning when considering the question myself, so many clients, family and friends are asking- 'why is this situation so hard?'. The pandemic has deprived us or at the very least severely impacted on fulfilling some of our fundamental needs as human beings. Many of us feel unsafe, at risk constantly and the freedom to socially connect with people when and how we want is compromised. This has impacted relationships- whether that's spending too much time together or not enough. Or it could be differing opinions about the level of threat or different levels of comfort as we interact. Many people have felt extremely isolated, and others have experienced the overload of being at home and around our families so much more. Let's be kind to ourselves and acknowledge that we are finding it hard because it is hard.

In my early professional years, I was asking the question: How can I treat, or cure, or change this person? Now I would phrase the question in this way: How can I provide a relationship which this person may use for his own personal growth?

Which are these are you going to be making time for this Christmas? 🄰

I thought this was an important reminder to share from . Christmas can make us feel a variety of different emotions, some nice, some less pleasant. However you feel is ok. The main thing is you look after yourself. šŸ’™

I'm often not a fan of articles that tell us what to do or not do but what this article is essentially saying is that our children need to see us being human. This means even witnessing our struggles and mistakes. It's really easy to feel guilty if our children see us cry lose our temper or make mistakes. Of course there are things that we might need to protect them from but we don't need to appear perfect in our children's eyes, we just need to be real.

This powerful parenting advice puts the 'show' in show and tell.

Be You Counselling

If you have visited my page, the chances are you are curious about counselling. Have you ever wondered what counselling would be like? Are you feeling stuck or dissatisfied with life but don’t know why? Maybe past issues are troubling you and you can’t seem to find a way forward. Perhaps you are facing new changes in life and are finding it hard to adjust. It might be difficult to talk to friends or loved ones because you don’t want to worry them or you feel they won’t be supportive. Perhaps you are the one that supports everyone else but now you need someone to offer you support. I will give you the time and space to talk things through. In our sessions you will have the opportunity to explore how you are feeling in a safe and confidential space with a trained and completely impartial professional.

My hope is that through our time together, you can gain a deeper understanding of yourself, your thoughts and feelings and get more in touch with what you want out of your life and relationships. I hope that ultimately, things will start to feel easier.

If you contact me by phone, messenger or email, I will tell you more about what I do. To help you decide if counselling is for you, I offer a free 30-minute face to face consultation session which gives you an opportunity to meet me in my calming and comfortable counselling space and talk about how we could work together.

Based close to Chorley town centre, I offer daytime and evening appointments, in a ground floor counselling space.
