And as we look back on mobility inventions of the past, it’s clear to see the modern day mobility scooter has come a long way since its first invention back in 1954

Back then, the scooter was closer to being more of a motorised wheelchair and it’s design didn’t really cater for anyone suffering from any level of disability, skeletomuscular problem or fatigue ♿

By the late 1960s, there was a growing demand for scooters that were more comfortable, more portable and more reliable

In 1968, Allan R Thieme from Michigan, USA, developed a scooter that used a small motor, similar to that of a vacuum cleaner, had a tiller-style steering system and a swivelling seat for easier access 💡✨

He claims to have got his inspiration from a family member who was suffering from multiple sclerosis and wanted more freedom and independence to get about
