⭐ Is it normal? ⭐

Yes, it can be normal to feel uncomfortable feeding after a C-section, especially around your tummy and incision area.

Many parents find rugby hold or side-lying feeding much gentler in those early days as they avoid pressure on the incision.

Take your time, use pillows and remember this stage does pass 💜

⭐Top Tip ⭐

If you’ve had a C-section and need pain relief, there is breastfeeding safe medication that you can ask for.

Good pain management matters. Being comfortable helps you move, position your baby and feed more easily.

You don’t need to 'just cope' and you are not being a nuisance by asking 💜✨

⭐Did you know? ⭐

It is absolutely possible to breastfeed after a C-section. Whether your birth was planned or unplanned, your body still knows exactly what to do.

Skin to skin, support with positioning, breastfeeding safe pain relief and time / patience will all help to establish your milk supply and get you off to a good start!

A C-section does not mean breastfeeding will be harder or impossible, even if it feels that way in the early days 💜

⭐Is It Normal? ⭐

Is it normal for latching to feel tricky at first?
Yes. Very normal.

Is it normal to need help or reassurance?
Also yes.

Is it normal for latch to improve over time as baby grows and you both gain confidence?
Absolutely.

If feeding is painful, stressful or worrying you, support can make all the difference. You don’t have to push through alone - we've got you 💜✨

⭐Did You Know? ⭐

Babies are born with reflexes to help them latch.

Rooting, opening their mouth wide, and sucking are all automatic reflexes. Sometimes we just need to give them the time and positioning to let those reflexes kick in.

A sleepy baby, a fast letdown, a tongue tie or a tricky birth can all affect latch in the early days, but none mean breastfeeding won’t work with a little support 💜

⭐Top Tip⭐ –

To get a deeper latch, bring baby to the breast, not breast to baby.

It sounds simple, we know, but it makes a huge difference!

Support baby close to you, wait for a wide open mouth (think yawn), then gently guide baby on.

If it feels painful, it’s ok to break the latch and try again. You’re not failing and you’re not annoying your baby. You’re learning together 💜
