Did you know the title of the track I use for relaxation in classes is called "Devotion" by Stephen DeRuby? It has become a staple of classes, I even get asked what it is by students to listen at home.

This title is important. We might not realise it but our yoga practise is an act of devotion. When we turn up again and again, and we practise with love and awareness, this is both devotion and dedication. You may practise devotion to a deity or the divine. Or it might be to yourself, a devotion to self study or self care. Perhaps you prefer to think of devoting yourself to your loved ones, in which case a yoga practise supports you in staying steady through the storms.

Whatever and however we consider the word "devotion", let your shavasana, relaxation time, be dedicated to deep rest and relaxation this week (and every week!)

We did something different today, including this "melting heart" pose over baby, "book of life" hand mudra and the Golden Thread breath. Not exactly "new" but part of a new class on "Releasing Tension". Many of my Baby and Postnatal yoga lesson plans have been in existence since I started almost 6 years ago. They've been updated over the years, some with many scribbles and notes as I've changed and added bits through my trainings and through practice. I decided this term to revamp the order and make sure there is progression, whilst there is some repetition it is varied over the term. Overall there are at least two terms of classes, with lots of seasonal extras (Christmas, Equinoxes, Summer Solstice, Spring, Mothers Day etc) so it doesn't get boring yet it also repeats the brilliant bits! This week was an entirely new class to Baby and Postnatal Yoga and I think it went well. 😍

PS this venue is a cosy Community Hub in Spixworth. It's not a clear empty studio, but it's welcoming and lovely, a small friendly group. I only have one space in this location this term, but I have more on Thursdays in Hellesdon, or you can get in touch for January classes now too.

❄ A magical morning of yoga based movement and mindfulness with a festive theme. Snowballs as our props for balance and coordination! Then a delicious story and ways for little hearts to connect with their body and breath. ❄

It's all happening on Saturday 20th December at Waterloo Park, above the cafe (so you can sneak in a cosy hot chocolate too!).

10am = "Under 5s" - older children welcome but know it will be aimed at younger ones, more songs and simpler poses

11am = "4-11s" - again all ages welcome, it will be more imagination and partner work

£11 per family of one adult one child (over 1) and any extras please add as a sibling.
Spaces are limited so book yours now!

Give yourself time. It takes months, years, to recover from pregnancy and birth. We hear about the timeframe of "6 weeks", and a quick google suggests 6 months, but I know from my experience and others it takes much longer. It's not just what we see on the outside, but how things FEEL physically, and how we FEEL mentally too.

I was thinking about this because of an experience recently. When my first baby was 6 months old my husband and I went to see a band (30 Seconds to Mars). I was feeling pretty good physically by this point, I'd started couch to 5k and other exercise. But standing for hours was unexpectedly challenging. My back hurt and I had to find a spot to sit down, I even asked the medical team if they had any painkillers (no was the answer). I was breastfeeding and pumping (as we'd left baby at home). I was tired from chronic sleep deprivation. I can't remember if my pelvic floor held up but I imagine I didn't have the energy for bouncing around. In hindsight it was all too much too soon.

Contrast to two weeks ago when we again went to a gig together in the standing section (Busted Vs Mcfly as in the video). My youngest is 5 and a half now. I was expecting sore feet and back again, but it wasn't a problem. I was dancing, jumping (and no leaking or multiple loo trips). I had plenty of energy til the end. I reflected back on how things had changed.

I know it can be frustrating but trust that in time you will be able to do the things you did before. With a little attention to recovery of your pelvic floor, movement, rest and most of all kindness. You are not alone. (My husband chose a great time to film me, this was not planned!)

A little reminder that I teach a general yoga class on a Monday evening. A great way to get your week off to a good start! This is a welcoming, open class, based on Hatha Yoga and my other yoga training. Suitable for all, no experience of yoga is necessary, just a willingness to connect with yourself for one hour.

Recent feedback from a new student, "I really enjoy your practice, it's exactly what I'd been looking for." Thank you!

We breathe, move, and rest to find a pocket of calm and recharge for the week. Classes involve postures (asana), breathwork and meditation, finishing with guided relaxation. There are different options and you are always encouraged to meet yourself where you are on that day. There is a monthly theme, currently "Surrender" for November.

£9 per session, or block booking at a reduced rate.

Email hello@yogawithamber.co.uk for more info or see www.yogawithamber.co.uk to book. (Booking is essential.)

Yoga for two. ❤ Breathing for two. ❤
One of the amazing things about practising yoga during pregnancy is the benefits to your baby. Often we focus on mum, and there are indeed so many benefits for mum of breathing, movement and spiritual practise.

When mum is relaxed, as so often comes through yoga, baby knows their world is safe. Reducing stress and anxiety leads to improved sleep and overall wellbeing for mum, which leads to better health for baby.

In addition, the breath is a form of bonding and connection, even before they are born. The sound of your heart rate and breathing are a constant rhythm to baby, and it may help them to regulate their heart and breath. It can also provide a space and time for you to connect with them.

When the breath capacity becomes reduced in the later weeks of pregnancy, breathing becomes even more important, and it can help during labour too.

Breathe for two (or three!) every breath is valued!

PS photo is of me pregnant almost 6 years ago!

Mother Roots Autumn retreat was a haven of support, release and peace yesterday. It brings me joy to set up the space with some seasonal touches, and this time bringing my new altar cards from . Both the time of year and the moon phase invite us to slow down, draw inwards, and let go of the things we can do. This was the invitation, and we facilitated ways to do this - with sharing aloud our thoughts, worth the breath, and with the movement. We then softened into stillness with some soothing sounds from Mel. We kept the attention inward as we were invited to choose one of Melanie's cards and reflect on it's meaning for us today. Tea and yummy treats to finish! My heart is full and I see how valuable these sessions are to you.

Thank you to everyone who came and especially to Mel!

This is the last of these sessions at Waterloo Park! I am excited to be moving to for 2026. If you'd like to join me for the first one to start the new year it is on 24th January at 10am. This is available at ab early bird price of £30 which will be increasing to £35 in December. If you'd like the link to book then comment JANUARY below ❤️

Does it feel like you're hanging on by a thread in motherhood? No wonder, there are endless demands on energy and time, whatever age your babies are. Even if you share the load of childcare with your partner, and have family around to help, the majority of the mental load and the "mothering" comes down to you. And if you don't have the support 🙄? Maybe you're working too, or caring for other family members. I feel you, it's a tough juggling act with so many things to remember, including looking after yourself which becomes another thing to do (and forget or be distracted from!) No wonder we can feel worn out, resentful, angry even.

Motherhood IS wonderful, it's a privilege and a joy, but it's okay, indeed normal if you don't "enjoy every minute" and you want some time for yourself.

This is one reason I created "Mother Roots", to allow you a bit of space away from the day to day demands to release, rest and reset. It began as for new mums, but now expanding it as we still need this time as they grow. We share honestly, move the body to release tensions, and allow time to rest. I nourish you with tea and snacks too!

I don't claim it's a miracle cure to suddenly feel energised and calm forever more! But it might help in some way that is enough to refill your cup this Autumn.

The next Mother Roots event is on THIS Saturday at Waterloo Park at 10.30am. Yoga, soundbath and refreshments for £29.
