Today our Flexi-Schoolers had to pass a real test!
After feeding the guinea pigs, cleaning the chicken house and the ducks’ house, and finding 20 duck eggs and two massive goose eggs, it was time for the next challenge for our Forest School leaders:
We asked them to:
🌲 build a fire pit
🌲 collect wood from the forest (not easy after a rainy night!)
🌲 find dry wood and start the fire
🌲 cook their own food on it
🙏 tidy up don’t leave any traces
The mission was simple: make bacon and egg sandwiches. Some children also brought their own sausages.
Everyone worked individually and independently, taking responsibility for the whole process.
I have to mention that our youngest girl finished first — she absolutely smashed it! ❤️ But I am incredibly proud of all of our amazing leaders today.
And the final verdict from everyone?

“This was the best food ever!” 😀
After cooking, the children had another important task
🔥 put the fire out properly
🧽 wash the pans
🌿 clean everything so we leave no trace in the forest
And guess what… we still had 30 minutes left to play games in our forest space.

I truly love Fridays with these amazing children. Watching them grow into capable, confident and responsible young people is something very special.❤️

Today at Flexi-School we touched something that some may find controversial.

All of our children attending these sessions are meat eaters. So today we learned something extra — something real.
As all farmers know, you cannot keep all cockerels in one flock. They will fight sometimes to the death. We had two bullies who were injuring the others. This is nature. This is responsibility. This is the reality of keeping animals.
The second part of today’s learning was even deeper.
If you eat meat, it is important to understand that it does not grow on Tesco shelves. The journey starts somewhere else — on a farm. It matters how you look after your animals. How free they are. How happy they are. How you select an animal for slaughter. And how grateful you are for their sacrifice.
In the modern world we waste so much food — which means we waste life. The life of another being. If you choose to eat meat, it is important to truly know this.

Today was about emotions and respect.
About understanding where food comes from.
About gratitude.
About responsibility.
And another important outcome of today’s lesson?
Knowledge and skills - real ones -that you may one day truly need.
Children learned not only with their hands, but with their hearts.

I know not everyone will agree with me here. And that’s okay. But I believe these are very important skills. Very important truths.
This is education about 🙂

🐝 What do you see in the first two photos? 🐝
A worker bee making wax from her own body
And this is where everything begins…
Young worker bees (usually around 12–18 days old) produce tiny wax scales from special glands on their abdomen. They use this wax to build fresh honeycomb — perfect little hexagons for storing honey, pollen , bee bread and for raising baby bees 🐣
Bees actually prefer older comb - it’s stronger, smells like home and feels safe.
But… not too old.
When frames become very old and dark, it’s time to remove them and give the hive a refresh
And that’s when our journey starts.
Those old frames, which you’ve seen in our other posts, are carefully processed by our Flexi-Schoolers -melted, filtered and cleaned -until they become beautiful, pure beeswax

From one tiny bee making wax with her body…
to candles made by children’s hands ❤️

And we must say — all our candles have been a huge success!
This is real learning.
This is respect for bees.

Back in January last year, our Flexi-Schoolers had chance to take on a serious challenge…
working with real beeswax 😄
Now, let us be clear — this is not the cute, clean wax you buy in little blocks.
This was proper, old beeswax, straight from the hive, which first had to be removed from the frames and then cooked in a big pan with a little water.
Why water?
Because this magical process helps separate all the things bees kindly leave behind…
leftover honey
tiny bee body parts
dirt, propolis and hive bits

In other words : a very authentic “wax soup” 😅

Of course, this wasn’t just play — we carefully risk-assessed working with fire and hot wax, talked about safety, responsibility, and respect for real tools and real materials.
After hours of melting, watching, stirring and waiting, we filtered our wax soup and poured it into a big bucket… then came the hardest part for children (and adults!):
waiting for it to cool.
And just when everyone thought we were done… surprise!
Once the wax cooled and formed a beautiful golden ring on top, we had to clean the bottom again 😄
More scraping, more patience, more teamwork.
And finally…
- beautiful, clean beeswax
Ready to be used for: candles, medicines
and future magical projects
This is what learning looks like in our forest:
messy, meaningful, slightly smelly, very real — and absolutely unforgettable 🐝🌲

Well done, Flexi-Schoolers. You truly earned your wax! 💪💛

Our wonderful Flexi-School children stepped into the world of traditional wisdom and natural living by making their very own apple cider vinegar from scratch.
This is such an important life skill to learn because apple cider vinegar isn’t just for cooking.
It’s something our grandparents used for:
natural cleaning
everyday health
healing and prevention

And the beauty of it?
It’s simple, natural and made with love.

All we needed were:
🍎 Fresh apples with the skin on
💧 Clean non-fluoridated water
🍬 A little sugar to start the natural fermentation ( 4 spoons to 1 litre of water to feed bacteria’s;)
We are incredibly lucky to have our own “Mother Vinegar”, so the boys could use her special power to begin the process — real nature science happening right in our forest school!
From this one magical start, the children now know how to create many different healing vinegars such as:
🌿 comfrey vinegar for skin and muscles
🍓 raspberry vinegar full of vitamins
🌹 rose vinegar for beauty and wellbeing
🌿 sage (salvia) vinegar for immunity
☕ even coffee bean vinegar!
This is what learning looks like at Evergreen Forest School —
hands on, meaningful, connected to nature and real life
So proud of our Flexi-Schoolers for their curiosity, teamwork and amazing work today!

Believe it or not… they did it!
Our Everlearning Forest Flexi Schoolers made their first nail-free, homemade swing today!
They learned two proper knots and worked together with real focus and teamwork. This wasn’t a pretend task — they built a real swing that you can actually use. I am so proud of them.

Afterwards, they tidied everything (many branches!), and then we moved to the next projects…
We also went to check our dam that the children made two weeks ago (still holding nicely!)— no fish or beavers yet 😉 , but frogs have moved in!
We rested with ice cream under our old oak tree, and started planning our new building project — a new house for our guinea pigs.
Lunch, laughter, serious talk about contract ,rules and consequences and ten minutes play in Forest as that was all left time but we use that 10 minutes play well good and:
Next week… skulls and bones 🫣😀
Real nature learning. Real skills. Real joy. 🌿💚
