Dundonald man Ricky Grinchly , 42, reportedly suffered a ‘sudden and severe’ back injury this morning moments after his wife, Bianca, suggested it might be time to ‘get the tree down from the loft’.
Witnesses say the injury struck with uncanny precision, occurring mere seconds after Bianca uttered the words ‘maybe this weekend’, at which point Ricky clutched his lower back and announced that his spine was ‘pure mangled’.
‘I was fine literally a second before’ Ricky told us, while lying horizontally on the sofa, wrapped in a tartan blanket and scrolling through his phone.
‘It’s the strangest thing, so it is - one minute I’m fine, the next, I can barely move.
‘I haven’t been in this much pain since she asked me to clear out the garage’.
Bianca, however, expressed mild scepticism about the timing of the incident.
‘He thinks I came up the Lagan in a bubble’, she said.
‘Thon back only ever ‘goes’ when there’s a ladder involved.
‘Last year it happened right before I asked him to get the tree and outdoor Christmas lights. Muggins here had to go up and get them’.
Local chiropractor Dr Steph O’Scope has described Ricky’s condition as ‘acute selective lumbar dysfunction’, a recurring ailment known to affect 98% of husbands between November and early January.
'It appears to be a seasonal thing', said O'Scope.
'He should be back on his feet once the decorations are back in the attic'.
However, it’s understood Ricky had made a full and miraculous recovery immediately after Bianca’s 69-year-old father brought the tree, decorations and Ricky’s suitcase down from the loft.
